INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION FOR HOUSING AND PLANNING FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE POUR L HABITATION, L URBANISME ET L AMENAGEMENT DES TERRITOIRES INTERNATIONALER VERBAND FÜR WOHNUNGSWESEN, STÄDTEBAU UND RAUMORDNUNG0
Dear IFHP Member, Welcome to this IFHP publication of your membership s benefits! Whether you have joined IFHP recently or if you have been a long standing member, you are member of an organisation that goes through exciting times. The world is undergoing rapid change and so are our cities, where more than 50% of people now live and this will be 70% in 2050. To accommodate this change, we need to generate and exchange innovative ideas and practical knowledge at the global level. IFHP plays an important role here. For our Centenary year, 2013, we have organized an unprecedented number of activities across the globe to promote the understanding of human settlements in a changing world. For 100 years we have been in the forefront of the international exchange of knowledge in the field of housing, planning and urban development in general. Now IFHP is changing radically in line with the rapidly and unpredictably changing world. Part of that change is a simplification of our membership structure and an expansion of your IFHP Membership benefits, which are described in this publication. It is my hope that you will both benefit from our activities and actively contribute to IFHP s on-going transformation to maintain our role as a leading international knowledge organisation. I hope to meet you at one of the upcoming IFHP events this year and also that you will continue to benefit from your IFHP Membership Kind regards, Flemming Borreskov President of IFHP

Basic In line with the IFHP s 2010-2013 Strategic Action Plan, three initial working groups have been formed with the purpose of creating and exchanging stateof-the-art knowledge through the expertise of its members. The aim is to equip participants to find the best local solutions to the global challenges facing housing and planning today. Working groups consist of a chairperson and interested participants and can involve a wide variety of activities depending on interest, theme and opportunity. Examples of possible activities include inspirational study visits, participation in implementation labs, seminars, symposia and/or congresses, and the creation of publications and practitioners guides. IFHP is currently supporting three working groups. The central question the IFHP Climate Resilient Cities Working Group (CRC) would like to address is how cities and regions can adapt to the effects of climate change such as extreme storm water buffering, rising sea and water levels; or just the opposite, extreme droughts, as well as urban heat islands effects, and other climatological challenges. The Spontaneous City Working Group evaluates the central question of how we can create or perhaps more accurately, allow for small scale, userdefined development in a planning system that traditionally favours certainty and control. The Housing Working Group was reactivated in February 2012, in London. The Housing Working group generates and transfers cross-cutting thematic knowledge in housing. The emphasis will be on concrete and topical housing challenges and developing projects.

Basic The members of IFHP elect the IFHP Council, which votes about important issues of IFHP and which elects the IFHP Board. The IFHP Council meets once a year in a round table meeting and in a formal meeting. The number of IFHP Council Members is limited to three Council members per country. Basic All members of IFHP (including Basic members) can be elected to serve on the IFHP Council or the IFHP Board. The Board has 6 members, is responsible for the overall management of IFHP and is chaired by the President. The Board usually meets four times a year.
IFHP and the content of our activities is shaped by our members. For example, the annual congress is prepared by an Expert Panel but also our other events are usually made by our members, not seldom as a key note speaker. Below you see a calendar of upcoming events and please feel welcome if you wish to contribute to any of those or if you have ideas for an activity or event that is not on the calendar yet.
As you will see on the IFHP website we have a number of partner organizations that also have events. Also IFHP has a growing number of city partnerships. These organizations and cities are usually a corporate member and are invited to advertise their events on the IFHP website when we think those events are of interest to our members. This benefit will be available to corporate members in the near future. Basic This benefit will be available to individual members in the near future..
