About this trip What is a middle school mission trip? The Middle School Service Trip is a summer opportunity offered by St. Pius X Youth Ministry. It is open to any student, Catholic or otherwise, who has will have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the summer of 2018. We welcome students regardless of whether or not they are registered parishioners at St. Pius X. While there are many reasons parishes offer service trips, we are believe that Christ has called us in a special way to recognize the dignity of each and every person with whom we come in contact. We are called to serve any who are in need. Duluth, Minnesota In Duluth, you will work alongside our partner organizations and serve the community primarily through relational ministry. Spend time with children at the Boys & Girls Club and the elderly at local senior care centers. Serve alongside a local church or assist in a food pantry. In the evenings, visit local attractions like Canal Park and Park Point Beach. Host a community cookout and enjoy time with community members. YouthWorks has partnered with this community since 1998. Who is YouthWorks? YouthWorks is a Minnesota-based service organization that provides lifechanging Christ-centered mission trips for over 30,000 students and adult leaders in over 70 communities across North America. Providing lifechanging Christ-centered mission trips is our way of serving God s multidenominational Church. Their vision is to help empower every teenager to know God and be like Jesus in the ways they love and serve others, and it is their desire is the same for churches, families, staff and communities. They aim to create experiences that broaden perspectives, ignite passions, expose possibilities and inspire pursuits.

Cost The cost for this year s trip is set at $450.00/student. That fee covers: YouthWorks registration fee ($299), transportation ($75), all group activities, chaperone fees, and any other incidentals. A $150 non-refundable down payment is due w/registration. If you register by January 19th we are able to give you an early bird discount of $25 so your total trip cost would be $425 and your down payment would be $125. Refund Policy: Down payments are always non-refundable. Furthermore, after April 30th, 2018 all participants will be responsible for paying the full amount of the trip stated above. All meals will be provided while at our YouthWorks sites. Students will be responsible for meals while traveling, we usually stop in a place that provides two+ fast food options. We recommend bringing $50-75 for meals and other stuff students might want to buy. Fundraising If students participate in even just a few of the fundraising opportunites we are confident that they will raise close to, if not all of, the entire amount needed to go on their trip. We ll be sure to send you fundraiser information as it comes up so stay tuned for more information about our fundraising opportunities. This trip is open to students in grades 6-8during the 2017-2018 school year. Adults need to be 21+ in order to drive. Young adults will be considered for trips, talk to youth ministry staff for more information. What is the adult to student ratio? One adult leader for every 4-5 students minimum. St. Pius X and YouthWorks require a "rule of three" at all times. There will never be a time when a student and an adult leader will be one-on-one. How do we get there? This year we ll be carpooling in adult leader's vehicles. How do we get to our worksites during camp? Adult leaders drive their small groups to sites in the vehicles we bring with us. What types of work will we do there? In Duluth, you will work alongside our partner organizations and serve the community primarily through relational ministry. We usually sleep on the floor of school classrooms or church halls. The rooms are gender specific and are often shared with other parish groups.
