Art & Culture Program 8500 Peña Boulevard Denver, CO 80249 (303) 342-2521 www.flydenver.com WESTIN HOTEL DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES: HOTEL INTERIORS OPEN TO COLORADO ARTISTS ONLY $100,000 - $300,000 COMMISSION DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: 12:00 PM MST, August 22, 2014 Denver International Airport s (DEN) Hotel and Transit Center is nearing completion, with a 519-room Westin hotel and conference center, an outdoor public plaza connecting the new development to the existing Jeppesen Terminal, a Public Transit Center and the new RTD East Rail Line station connecting downtown Denver to Denver International Airport, the world s eleventh busiest airport. This substantial project began in the fall of 2011 and is scheduled open in the fall of 2015. We are proud to announce that Westin Hotel Denver International Airport (Westin DIA) will feature the work of talented Colorado-based artists and designers in the guest rooms, hallways and in the public circulation areas of the Westin Hotel and conference center. Art Opportunities at the Westin DIA The DIA Art and Culture Program is currently soliciting applications for two-to-three commissions in two, interior public circulation areas of the new Westin DIA. The total art budget for both locations is $400,000 (all inclusive). Thus, each of the two locations carry a budget (all-inclusive) of $100,000 - $300,000 depending on the size, scale and complexity of the artwork proposed. LEVEL 1 HOTEL ENTRANCE: Guests arriving to the Westin DIA by automobile will enter at Level 1 of the building, in a porte-cochère area. We seek an artist to create an interior work of art to grace a long (up to 150 ) wall on the north side of the porte-cochère entrance, visible from the exterior. LEVEL 2 CONFERENCE PRE-FUNCTION AREA: A public circulation area in front of the Grand Ballroom area will feature double-story walls for Flanking/mirrored 2D/low relief artwork. Wall sizes are roughly 20 x 22 artwork no larger than 15 x 15. There is a possibility for a smaller third location behind the reception desk between these two walls, TBD. This commission could be divided between two or more artists, depending on the will of the Art Committee. Hotel Interiors Opportunities 1

All qualified artists are invited to apply for these opportunities through our on-line portal https://flydenver.slideroom.com. You will need to set up an account at the Slideroom portal to submit your available work. Please read the Qualification Requirements and Westin Design Guidelines sections below carefully and submit your work for this registry 12:00 PM (MST) on August 22, 2014 (instructions below). If you do not meet the qualification requirements or your work is not in alignment with the Westin Guidelines, please do not submit your portfolio of work for these opportunities. If you have questions or need assistance with your application, please submit a request via email: STRPart@flydenver.com. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION. NON-QUALIFIED ARTISTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THESE OPPORTUNITIES. 1. Colorado Artists Only: only artists who currently reside in the State of Colorado will be considered for these opportunities. 2. Westin Art Criteria: only artists whose artwork adheres generally to the Westin Design Guidelines (below) will be considered. 3. Two-Dimensional & Low Relief Artwork: two-dimensional, bas relief, collage and low-relief assembled artwork will be considered for these opportunities. WESTIN DESIGN GUIDELINES THE WESTIN DIA WAS DESIGNED ACCORDING TO VERY SPECIFIC BRANDING AND DESIGN VALUES/GUIDELINES. THESE SAME BROAD GUIDELINES WILL ASSIST THE DIA ART COMMITTEE IN THEIR SELECTION OF PERMANENT ARTWORK IN THE PUBLIC SPACES OF THE HOTEL. ARTISTS WHO WORK GENERALLY WITHIN THESE BROAD CRITERIA ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. 1. Well-Being: The Westin DIA is designed around the concepts of Sleep-Well, Eat-Well, Move-Well, Feel-Well, Play Well. The spaces of the hotel will be bright, welcoming and guests will feel better when the leave than when you arrived. 2. Biophilia: Our well-being is affected by an innate need to connect with nature and link to the natural world. Accents and design details in the hotel are inspired by the natural world recalling abstracted biomorphic shapes, textures, materials and themes (fractals, geologic patterning and micropatterning). Natural, vibrant color is encouraged. 3. Modern Oasis: The Westin DIA design team created a clutter-free, contemporary, harmonious refuge for guests and visitors. 4. Non-Representational: artwork for the Westin DIA should be interpretive and innovative rather than traditional figural or representational artwork. Works of Elevated Craft and assembled, textural pieces are encouraged. 5. DESIGN GUIDELINES INSPIRATION: Please see the Design Guidelines Brief for photos and additional information. Public Art Selection Diversity and Inclusivity Provisions: A Diversity and Inclusiveness* in City Solicitations Information Request Form will be required of all artists who are selected as semi-finalists or finalists. These forms will be provided to the artist upon notification of their semifinalist/finalist status and must be completed to best the applicant s ability to be considered for this call. As directed by Executive Order 101, this form must be submitted for all city solicitations of proposals. Using the form, entitled Diversity and Inclusiveness in City Solicitations Information Request Form, please state whether you have a diversity and inclusiveness program for employment and retention, procurement and supply chain activities, or customer service and provide the additional information requested on the form. The information provided on the Diversity and Inclusiveness in City Solicitations Information Request Form will provide an opportunity for City contractors/consultants to describe their own diversity and inclusiveness practices. Contractors/consultants are not expected to conduct intrusive examinations of its employees, managers, or business partners in order to describe diversity and inclusiveness measures. Rather, the City simply seeks a description of the contractor/consultant s current practices, if any. Diversity and Inclusiveness information provided by City contractors/consultants in response to City solicitations for services or goods will be collated, analyzed, and made available in reports consistent with City Executive Order No. 101. However, no personally identifiable information provided by or obtained from contractors/consultants will be in such reports. If the questions do not apply to your entity and/or business, artists will be instructed to complete the contact information section, Question #1, and complete the signature section on page 4.
