RESEARCH Property Council is committed to creating an informed marketplace by providing timely and accurate information that improves strategic management and operational decision-making within the industry. Our focus is on producing facts and accurate forecasts rather than speculation, and analysis that helps you run your business and understand market trends. EVENTS Property Council provides the opportunity for you to connect with other members throughout the country. We conduct over 80 events across New Zealand each year, attracting more than 15,000 members. SOUTHERN EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2018 Property Council New Zealand, South Island Branch, is pleased to announce the 2018 Southern Excellence Awards! The Awards celebrate the people in property; recognising excellence in leadership and innovation in the South Island property industry whilst celebrating outstanding contributions to the industry and economy. The Awards are open to both members and non-members of Property Council New Zealand who are based in the South Island. The Judging Panel consists of an extremely high calibre group of South Island property professionals from a range of disciplines within the property industry providing reputability and ensuring equality in the judging process. All Award winners will be formally announced and celebrated at the Awards dinner on Friday 5 October 2018 at Wigram Airforce Museum, Christchurch. The evening will include a welcome function sponsored by Buchan, a formal Awards ceremony, a three-course meal and an opportunity to network with property colleagues and friends. THE JUDGES We are honoured to confirm our highly respected judging panel for the Southern Excellence Awards 2018 is as follows: DEBRA BUCKLEY Chief Executive, New Zealand Institute of Management and Leadership Debra Buckley is the CEO of the New Zealand Institute of Management and Leadership. She has a wealth of experience in leadership education, sales and marketing and general management, gained in markets across Europe and New Zealand. Having worked for luxury brands such as Elizabeth Arden and Godiva, Debra is passionate about people learning how to leverage their own experience to propel the commercial success of a brand and the success of others. Debra is currently the Board Chair of K9 Natural. propertynz.co.nz GRAEME MCDONALD JASPER VAN DER LINGEN Associate Director and Registered Valuer, JLL Director - F.N.Z.I.A. Graeme is an Associate Director and Registered Valuer at JLL, with over 30 years experience as a property professional, predominantly as a registered valuer and property consultant. He has worked with DTZ/Darroch, Bennett Rolle Limited, Challenge Valuation and Housing Corporation of New Zealand. Graeme was the South Island Branch President of Property Council New Zealand from 2008 2012, notably during the Canterbury earthquakes and remains an engaged Branch Executive member. He was also appointed to the Christchurch City Council Urban Design Panel upon its establishment in 2008 and remains a current member with focus on urban design functionality and economic feasibility. Graeme s affiliations include Property Institute of New Zealand, New Zealand Institute of Valuers and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, the latter of which he sits on the South Island Advisory Panel. Jasper has worked in a number of architecture firms in New Zealand and abroad, including a three year period in London, but joined Sheppard & Rout in 1993 and became a Director in 2006. Jasper has worked as Design and Project Architect on large complex jobs, including the Christchurch International Airport Expansion, Burwood Hospital, School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University, and the multi-award winning Stranges Building and BNZ Centre. Jasper is particularly interested in how buildings are integrated into a context and help form the unique identity, memory and cultural setting of a place. Jasper was the Chairman of the New Zealand Institute of Architects Canterbury branch from 2010 to 2012 and was a member of the NZIA Council from 2015 to 2017. He was the Convenor of the NZIA National Architecture Awards in 2016 and is currently a member of the Christchurch Council Urban Design Panel. 4

THE JUDGES LEEANN WATSON PETER MENCE Chief Executive of the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive, Argosy Property Leeann is the Chief Executive of the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce (The Chamber), the largest and most progressive membership business support agency in the South Island with approximately 2,900 members. Leeann is a strong voice for Canterbury business, and works with the Board of The Chamber to develop and deliver its strategic direction. Leeann led the restructuring of The Chamber to respond to the changing business environment post-earthquakes, and regularly reviews core services to ensure they continue to meet members needs. More recently she led the rebuild project for the new Chamber offices in Kilmore Street and is working on the future direction of The Chamber as part of a five year project. Leeann is a Director of the Champion Canterbury Business Awards which recognise business excellence, a Director of Canterbury Regional Business Partners Ltd, and the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Christchurch Boys High School. Leeann interfaces with the business community at all levels and across all sectors and has An engineer by background, Peter has over 35 years of experience in the property industry working with Progressive Enterprises, Challenge Properties, Richard Ellis and Green and McCahill. Peter joined Armstrong Jones (NZ) which subsequently became ING NZ, in 1994 and was appointed General Manager of Argosy (then known as ING Property Trust) in 2007. Instrumental in the re branding and internalisation of the company s management Peter was appointed Chief Executive of the business in 2009. Peter is a Fellow of the Property Institute, a past National President of the Property Council of New Zealand, and is a past lecturer in Advanced Property Management at the University of Auckland. many years experience in working in partnership with both Local and Central Government. propertynz.co.nz 5

GREENWOOD ROCHE YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR AWARD This Award is directed to an individual aged under 35 who has, at an early stage in their professional career, achieved outstanding performance in property by their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry. Nominees can be from any sector within the property industry, from engineering to development and infrastructure, property management or architecture and design. The Award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution to a particular field of endeavour of social or economic importance related to property, and additionally have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, commitment and the promise of future industry leadership. This Award is unique in that it comes with a valuable prize kindly supported by the South Island Education Trust. The Young Achiever of the Year will receive: Complimentary entry to all educational Property Council South Island events for one year, with an estimated value of $900; and Complimentary entry to Property Council National Conference including (if not in Canterbury) flights, transfers and accommodation with tickets to the Conference, Conference Dinner and pre-conference networking event, with an estimated value of $4,000. 15% 35% 40% 10% SECTION 1 SECTION 2 SECTION 3 SECTION 4 Provide a statement of the nominees academic and/ or professional history, demonstrating their passion in the industry and display of excellence. RESENE URBAN DESIGN AWARD This Award is directed to an individual or team that have followed Urban Design best practice in project(s) and applies to those who have demonstrated excellence in a new development or refurbishment. By pursuing Urban Design outcomes this individual or team has created a more inspiring, innovative, and more aesthetically pleasing environment. The outcome not only looks good but contributes to the sustainable growth of the city/region. 20% 20% 30% SECTION 1 Provide an outline of what the nominee has undertaken to better the region s urban fabric, including why this particular project or action is unique and innovative. Note: Nominations relating to project work must have a completion date of no later than June 2018. 20% SECTION 2 Comment on how the nominee has demonstrated best practice by taking into consideration the seven C s : context, character, choice, connections, creativity, custodianship and collaboration. 10% SECTION 3 Explain why the nominee s actions have benefited or enhanced the wider community, with consideration for the community s current challenges. Include comments of how this engagement has contributed to the sustainable growth of the local environment. SECTION 4 SECTION 5 Format Comment on how the nominee s actions are inspirational to the industry and how the outcome will have a continued effect on the industry as a whole. WSP OPUS BEST TEAM AWARD This Award is directed to a team who has demonstrated excellence by developing a specific project of any size that is outstanding in terms of innovation, design, sustainability, profitability, promotes growth, is inspirational and influences future development. This team, through their outstanding work, has positively influenced the look and feel of the South Island region. Teams who enter this category can include multi-organisation project teams, internal work teams, or any other collaborative team which is required to work together to achieve a desired outcome. 15% 40% 35% 10% SECTION 1 SECTION 2 SECTION 3 SECTION 4 Provide an overview of the team detailing the participants areas of expertise/interest, and the groups desired outcomes or achievements. GHDWOODHEAD PROPERTY PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD This Award is directed to an individual who has demonstrated leadership and vision that helped lead to a positive change in the property industry to the benefit of either property practitioners or the community at large. The Award winner will have demonstrated commitment to the South Island property industry by helping to support growth and development in the region. Their positive contribution will have enabled projects to operate in an efficient manner, making the entire process easier. The Award winner goes the extra mile and is considered a doer in the industry. Entries may relate to any area of property practice. 15% 40% 35% 10% SECTION 1 SECTION 2 SECTION 3 SECTION 4 Provide details of the area of expertise or project(s) supported by this individual with particular focus on their leadership and vision. KIRK ROBERTS LONG SERVICE AWARD This Award will be awarded to an individual who has been in the property industry for 20+ years and has achieved outstanding performance in property during their professional career by their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry and, as a result, the local economy. The Award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution to a particular field of endeavour of social or economic importance related to property, and additionally have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, commitment, and leadership that is inspiring to those within the industry. The South Island Branch Executive will decide who is to receive this Award. The recipient will be presented the Award at the formal function. JUDGES CHOICE AWARD The recipient for this Award is decided by the judging panel and is presented to a deserving nominee mentioned in the other categories. The recipient of this award may not fit the criteria of other categories but deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution to the South Island property industry. This Award can be presented to a team or individual. PROPERTY COUNCIL SOUTH ISLAND SUPREME EXCELLENCE AWARD The recipient of this Award is decided by the judging panel and is presented to a winner in a previous category. The winner of this category is deemed by the judging panel to be the standout recipient above all other nominees. Note: These categories are not open to submissions. propertynz.co.nz 13

Property Council New Zealand and its associated media accept no responsibility for any incorrect details, spelling or other incorrect information stated in the entry form and submission. Property Council New Zealand does not guarantee that all entrants will be featured in publications or promotional events related to the Southern Excellence Awards. DISQUALIFICATION Property Council New Zealand reserves the right to disqualify an entry, at any time during the process, if the judging panel determines that: 1. The entry or entrant breaches or otherwise fails to meet or observe any of the above stated eligibility or contest requirements; or 2. False or misleading information has been intentionally provided. ENTRANT ELIGIBILITY Nominations and entries can be made by Property Council New Zealand members and non-members. Property Council New Zealand reserves the right to decline to make an Award or present a certificate in any particular category. IMAGES Colour images must be provided on USB or via Dropbox and be suitable for large screen audio visual and print purposes. All images supplied should be of professional quality and must be high resolution (over 1000 pixels), clean (no photographer s credits or watermarks) colour images. Please supply a minimum of four and a maximum of eight high resolution images in jpg or tiff format files. Note: Property Council New Zealand reserves the right to use these images as required for all publicity. JUDGING CRITERIA Submissions will be judged on the specific criteria outlined under each Award category. Failure to follow these criteria may result in your nomination being rejected. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
