CELEBRATE SUMMER AT NEW YORK STATE PARKS The Niagara Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has released their summer events schedule. Events take place across the region, are free to attend and reservations are highly encouraged. The schedule is as follows: Thursday, July 19 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. A Stroll Along the Rim Join us for a leisurely evening walk along the Niagara Gorge to Devil s Hole State Park. The return trip will follow the Robert Moses Recreation Trail to. For information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Saturday, July 21 8:00 a.m. 10:00a.m. Survival 101 A survival situation requires knowledge and skills. Join outdoor enthusiast David Borchert as he teaches us some basic survival techniques before venturing into the wilderness. For information & registration call (716) 549-1050. Sunday, July 22 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. Goat Island Adventure Walk Join a park naturalist to explore the oldest state park in the United States. Saturday, July 28 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Old Growth: Big Trees & Buttressed Roots DeVeaux Woods State Park Ever wonder what makes a tree old growth? Well, here is your chance to take a walk through a local stand of old growth oaks, maples, and beech to learn about tree heights, diameter and buttressed roots. Beaver Island State Park You deserve a break! Nature offers you an evening of relaxation! We will start with a visit at the Beaver Island Nature Center and from there go explore the lagoon and shoreline of the Niagara River. For information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Saturday, August 25 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. From the Forest to the Flats DeVeaux Woods State Park & This journey will begin with a brief walk through majestic old growth trees of DeVeaux Woods and take us to the mighty rapids of the Niagara River at the Whirlpool Flats. Along the way we will discuss historical events, identify plants, observe wildlife, and connect with nature. For more information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Saturday, September 15 1:00 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Beaver House and Lighthouse Golden Hill State Park State park naturalists will present an informational program on beavers followed by a hike to view their beaver lodge. After the walk, the Friends of Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse will host a tour of Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse and conclude with light refreshments. For information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Saturday, September 15 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Monarch Migration Mystery The butterflies put on an amazing aerial display on their 2,400 mile journey to become the true Treasures of the Sierra Madres! Join a park naturalist for a leisurely and scenic motorcycle ride through some of the state parks in Niagara County. Learn a lot of interesting facts as we ride from park to park. You MUST have your own licensed,

registered, inspected and insured motorcycle. You MUST be 18 years old and possess a valid operating license. DOT helmet required. For information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Friday, September 28 7:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. Full Moon Adventure Wilson Tuscarora State Park Being out in the dark may seem scary, but it can also be exciting. Join a park naturalist as we experience Wilson Tuscarora after dark, guided with the light from the moon. Walk will follow a brief presentation. For information & registration call (716) 282-5154. Friday, September 28 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Friday Night Lights Buffalo stood at its brightest in 1901 when it hosted the magnificent Pan-American Exposition. Rediscover this brilliant movement in local history, then take an enchanting candle-lit venture along the shore cliffs of Lake Erie. The past comes alive this evening at! Four Mile Creek State Park Campground Saturdays & Sundays June 30 September 2 While camping at Four Mile Creek, take part in some of the FREE fun programming provided by state park naturalists. Take a hike, learn about the wildlife and create nature-themed crafts for fun! Information and flyers are posted at the campground! For more information call (716) 282-5154. Historic 30 Mile Point Lighthouse Golden Hill State Park Summer months Tour the lighthouse and climb the tower, weather permitting, then stroll over to the visitor s center and enjoy the maritime displays featured there. For fees and hours of operation call (716) 795-3885. Niagara Gorge Trailhead Building Open daily 9:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Get information on the trails before making your trek into the Niagara Gorge. Trail maps are available. For more information call (716) 282-5154. Whirlpool Natural History Room 9:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Thursday - Sunday Stop in and look at the displays and talk to a naturalist about local geology and history of the area. Room will be closed if naturalist is leading a gorge hike.

Park tours, hikes, walks, in-park and outreach programs for GROUPS are offered throughout the year in the Niagara Frontier State Park Region, which consists of 13 state parks in Erie and Niagara Counties, and 3 state parks in Chautauqua County.
