About TransCen & The Mid-Atlantic ADA Center For over 30 years, TransCen, Inc. (www.transcen.org) has been commited to improving the lives of people with disabilities through meaningful work and community inclusion. Since 1996, TransCen has operated the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center. The Mid-Atlantic ADA Center provides information, guidance and training on how to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in order to support the mission of the ADA to assure equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities. It is funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is one of the 10 regional ADA Centers that comprise the ADA National Network. Though federally funded, the ADA Center is not an enforcement or regulatory agency, but a helpful resource for individuals and entities with rights and responsibilities under the ADA. About the Mid-Atlantic ADA Update 2018 marks the 25th Annual Mid-Atlantic ADA Update, a 2 ½ day conference providing more than 300 participants from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond with up-to-date information on the ADA, featuring speakers from the federal enforcement agencies and other professionals with expertise in all areas of the ADA, including physical access, employment, effective communication, and requirements for state and local governments and businesses open to the public. Past conference attendees include a broad array of professionals from state, local and federal government agencies, businesses, advocacy organizations and colleges and universities who enjoyed networking and learning the latest strategies, trends and information to advance ADA implementation. 3

Conference Features Pre-Conference Session An afternoon pre-conference session, ADA Overview is offered for attendees new to the ADA or anyone needing a refresher. Meet & Greet Networking Reception Attendees and speakers are invited for light hors d oeuvres and cash bar on the first evening of the conference to check in and meet our staff and other participants. Federal Agency Panel Session The first full day of the Mid-Atlantic ADA Update begins with a conversation with representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Access Board and U.S. Department of Transportation who discuss their agencies current initiatives and activities related to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Breakout Sessions 24 to 30 breakout session choices are available to participants including topics ranging from accessible design to inclusive program planning and disability employment issues. Conference faculty includes professionals with experience in ensuring ADA implementation in their organizations and experts from federal enforcement agencies involved with creating the regulations and guidance for the statute. 6
Conference Features (continued) Keynote Speakers Plenary sessions on day 1 and day 2 of the conference feature well-known speakers who share their experiences, challenges and successes related to the ADA. Exhibitors The Fairfax Foyer, a central atrium area at the Tysons Sheraton Hotel, is reserved for exhibitors to showcase their tools, products, and services. Conference attendees are encouraged to visit each vendor by participating in our Exhibitor Bingo Game. Moderated Affinity Networking Sessions A working lunch on the 2nd day of the Mid-Atlantic ADA Update includes opportunities for participants to network with professionals in their fields in our popular moderated affinity sessions. Professional Development Hours At past conferences, professional development hours have been available from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
