Frank Luke, a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Officers Reserve Corps, became known as the Arizona Balloon Buster with 14 victories against enemy German observation balloons.

Reserve Captain Charles Lindbergh is a Medal of Honor recipient for his solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris in 1927.

On April 18, 1942, Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle led 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers to attack Japan earning him the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Hollywoood actor Jimmy Stewart joined the military as a pilot during World War II, and he retired as a brigadier general in the Air Force Reserve.

One of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, Lieutenant Colonel Lee Archer, downed four German aircraft during WWII. He flew with the 302nd Fighter Squadron, famously known for their red tails. Today, the squadron flies for the Air Force Reserve at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Air Force Reservists from the 452nd Air Mobility Wing, March Air Reserve Base, California, flew C-124 Globemaster II aircraft nicknamed Old Shaky.

Air Force Citizen Airmen flew the C-123 Provider in the 1960s and 70s.

Air Force Reserve Captain Adriana Valadez and Staff Sergeant Amanda Pena from the 433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, San Antonio, Texas, saved the life of Technical Sergeant Zachary Rhyner, a special operations joint terminal air controller.

Its mission is to provide combat ready forces to fly, fight, and win. More than 70,000 actively serving and highly trained Citizen Airmen stand proud and ready to answer the nation s call. We support every Air Force core function and every Combatant Commander around the world. Air Force Reservists provide strategic and tactical airlift, air refueling, aeromedical evacuation, fighters, bombers, remotely piloted aircraft, special operations, personnel recovery, space, and cyber operations. Citizen Airmen also perform unique homeland missions including aerial spraying, hurricane hunting, and aerial firefighting.
