Ben s Long Table Lunch
Ben s Long Table Lunch Toowoomba s own long table lunch to showcase regional food and wine in a culinary extravaganza created by local chefs 27 March 2014 Our vision is that Ben s Long Table Lunch will become a signature event on the Darling Downs calendar each year and will showcase as much regional produce, wine and culinary expertise as possible
Who is Ben? This event, hosted by the Glennie School Foundation, recognises Archdeacon Benjamin Glennie in whose name the Glennie School was dedicated. Archdeacon Glennie travelled extensively throughout the Downs in the mid to late 1800s. He also grew vegetables which he sold to raise funds for his vision of education on the Downs. He donated almost 2,000 for the establishment of a school for the benefit of the early settlers. This inaugural long table lunch not only celebrates Ben s philanthropy but is also a community event helping to raise funds to provide scholarships for girls who wouldn t normally have the opportunity to attend this renowned School and fulfil their dreams. It is being held at the Glennie School, Toowoomba. We aim to attract 300 people to this inaugural event.

Ben s Head Chef Rick Osborne Rick Osborne was born and raised in Toowoomba and is one of five children to successful Toowoomba business owners Mark and Fran. He left school at 15 to undertake an apprenticeship as a chef and pursue his dream of having his own restaurant. He worked in a variety of restaurants throughout South-east Queensland and qualified as a chef while at the Marriott Hotel in Brisbane. With the world at his feet, he went to Canada and worked with the Fairmont Hotel Group in Jasper and Toronto. He went to London to work for two years with world-renowned chefs, Albert Roux and Michel Roux Jr, at their restaurant Le Gavroche, one of the most prestigious restaurants in London. After four and a half years it was time to come home. He spent time working with Shannon Bennett at Vue de Monde, Melbourne s only three Chef Hat Restaurant. (It takes a lot of expertise for a restaurant to gain one chef s hat three makes it a superb experience.) He finally returned to Toowoomba and acquired the Angel Café and Kingfishers Café Restaurant in The Springs Garden World complex. Rick at a very young age dreamt of having his own restaurant and the dream was never his master, he has turned it into a reality. He has a passion for his craft and aims to have menus that encompass seasonal produce at an affordable price.

Background Continuing the good work of Benjamin Glennie, whose ethos was to provide education through the selling of produce. This event aims to raise awareness of the ongoing struggle many families, particularly from rural Australia, face when seeking the best for their children during their school years. The Glennie School Foundation raises funds for different School projects. One focus is providing scholarships to help rural families send their daughters to our school for the opportunity to fulfil their potential, realise their dreams and becoming All She Can Be. In 2012 the Glennie School Foundation Limited provided $177,000 value in scholarships for Glennie girls. We hope you will join us to enhance this endowment for future generations.
