Students may log onto the portal, http://www.my.pitt.edu click on the Homecoming Election tab, and the voting page will be displayed. Each candidate s portrait and name will appear on this page. By clicking on a name, a personal page for each candidate will be displayed. Information from this application, including the answer to the question below, will be included on this page. In addition if you do elect to create a personal video for the campaign then this will also be displayed in your bio. Complete the following personal statement and web profile form. Your answer will be screened by the Homecoming Committee for inappropriate remarks. An unfavorable review of this statement may result in a candidate s disqualification or necessitate the re-writing and resubmission of this statement. Please include the typed essay in the email with your photos (refer to 2017 Homecoming King and Queen Rules). The essay should be in Microsoft Word format and labeled Lastname_firstname_17.doc. Personal H2P Video For the 2017 Homecoming campaign candidates will be asked to create a short video that can focus on anything the candidate chooses. This component will be completely optional, but will present another opportunity to advertise why each candidate is in his or her opinion the best representative for Homecoming 2017 King or Queen. Candidates will have complete creative freedom in regards to content as long as content is deemed appropriate. The video will have a strict 3-minute maximum time frame. If you would like a video to be featured on Instagram a 60- second one can be submitted additionally. Candidates should express why they Hail to Pitt in trying it with a creative campaign ad. This should use this as an opportunity to reach out to the student body and share a little more about themselves. Videos will be displayed on SAA, PAA, and Blue and Gold social media accounts and may be shared on personal social media accounts of the candidates. All current rules concerning appropriate content and proper representation of one s self as it pertains to homecoming as a university-sponsored event will pertain to the personal videos as well. These video s will be screened by the homecoming committee the same as other materials being submitted. Please submit the video s by the same application deadline, 10:00am October 2, 2017. 2017 Homecoming King and Queen Rules 1) Each nominee must be currently registered at the University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus and must have full-time status (12 or more credits). Please attach a copy of your Fall Term 2017-2018 academic schedule with your application you submit digitally. This will verify that you are a full-time (12 or more credits) student at the University of Pittsburgh-Oakland campus. 2) Previous Kings and Queens are not eligible to run. 3) All applicants must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average to apply and campaign for candidacy. 4) Applicants must be in good standing with the University including but not limited to good financial, academic and judicial standing. 5) Candidates must comply with the University of Pittsburgh state and federal laws during the campaign period. Candidates are responsible for all campaign materials bearing their name. 6) Application, sponsor documentation, and a copy of your fall schedule are due to the Alumni Association, 140 Alumni Hall by 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 2, 2017. Personal statement and image must also be electronically submitted to bgstraditions@gmail.com by 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 2, 2017. 7) Applicants must submit electronically to Hager Mohamedein at bgstraditions@gmail.com the following: a. King or Queen Information Sheet b. Personal Statement (250 Words or less) c. Personal H2P Video d. Copy of your Fall Term 2017-2018 academic schedule e. one (1) 150x150 pixel headshot for the main ballot page f. one (1) 300x300 pixel headshot (should be the same pose as the previous 150x150) for the ad in the Pitt News ***PICTURES SHOULD BE SENT AS ATTACHMENTS. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE PICTURES INTO MICROSOFT WORD*** It is important that all the photos be these exact sizes in order for the page design to work. Please complete any necessary cropping and resizing of photos before you submit them to us. The Blue and Gold Society and The Pitt Alumni Association are not responsible for editing your photos. Scanners and photo editing software are available in the computing 4

labs. The photos must be in good taste. Failure to comply with this rule will result in rejection of improper photos and re-submission of proper photos. Candidates may also be penalized votes. 8) You must be a member of the Student Alumni Association. If you are not a member, you are able to sign-up at alumni.pitt.edu/saa. 9) Applicants must have a primary sponsor that is a University of Pittsburgh Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) student organization. Sponsorship by bars and restaurants may only be used as supplementary (secondary) sponsors. 10) The primary sponsoring organization may only nominate/sponsor/endorse one candidate for queen and one candidate for king. Nomination, sponsorship, and endorsement shall mean the same thing for the purpose of this election. Only certified student organizations can nominate or serve as a primary sponsor for a candidate, all other endorsements will not be accepted (as primary sponsors). In addition Student Government Board nor Blue & Gold Society should not be used as a primary sponsor as they are elected by the student body and should remain impartial. 11) Secondary sponsors are not required and documentation is not required either (documentation is only needed for the primary sponsoring SORC organization). There is no limit to the number of secondary sponsors. Secondary sponsors can include other SORC/non-SORC organizations, restaurants, etc. 12) Applicants must attend a mandatory meeting at 8:45 pm on Monday, October 2, 2017 in 140 Alumni Hall. This meeting will provide a review of the rules, allow for any corrections or amendments to be made, and cover the schedule of events. This will also give the candidates an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. 13) It is mandatory that the Homecoming King and Queen participate in Pitt Make a Difference Day (PMADD) as team leaders held at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The Homecoming King and Queen will also attend the Cathedral Ball on Friday, December 8, 2017 and lead over 500 students in Sweet Caroline. The King and Queen will be required to attend other events during the academic year. The King and Queen will be notified of these events as scheduled. 14) It is mandatory that all Homecoming King and Queen candidates participate in 5 hours of community service before submitting your application on Monday, October 2, 2017. You will need to submit documentation digitally when you turn in your application. The five hours must be logged through PittServes site through MyPitt Portal. 5

15) Campaigning will begin at 12:00 am, Thursday, October 5, 2017. Candidates campaigning before this time may be instantly disqualified or may be penalized votes. Candidates are ultimately responsible for ANY campaigning on their behalf. 16) All campaign materials must include the words Sponsored by the Pitt Alumni Association, the Blue & Gold Society and the Student Alumni Association a. On social media, you must tag the following Instagram - @Pitt_Alumni, @PittBGS, @Pitt_SAA Facebook @PittAlumni, @PittBlueAndGoldSociety, @PittSAA Twitter - @PittAlumni, @BGSPitt, @Pitt_SAA All candidates must use the hastag #PittHC17 in all posts. 17) Any type of campaign slogans placed on flyers, t-shirts or other campaign materials must be emailed to bgstraditions@gmail.com and approved by the Homecoming Committee by Monday, October 2, 2017. Any distribution of un-approved campaigning material is prohibited. 18) All hand-outs or giveaways will need to be approved by Homecoming Committee by Monday, October 2, 2017. 19) T-shirts may be distributed prior to Monday, October 2, 2017 but MAY NOT be worn until campaigning officially starts on Thursday, October 5, 2017. 20) Banners may be hung when campaigning begins, Thursday, October 5. If desired location is on University property, candidate MUST have pre-approval and schedule times for installment and tear-down at the appropriate times through the University. 21) Distribution of materials and hanging of flyers will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Thursday October 5, 2017. All materials must comply with appropriate University guidelines. Candidates are responsible for knowing the policies of each building/area where their materials are placed. Campaigning door to door (dorm storming) in the Residence Halls is strictly prohibited. Candidates who wish to have flyers in Residence Halls must print out copies and take them to the Residence Life Office located in the WPU. All campaign material must be in good taste. Nudity or profanity of any kind on campaign material will be grounds for instant disqualification. 22) Campaign give-a-ways offered to voters starting at 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 cannot exceed a monetary value of $1 per item (this excludes t-shirts). 23) No campaign activities may be associated with alcohol or illegal substances of any kind. Non-compliance will result in immediate disqualification. 6

24) Candidates may not offer voters any type of monetary incentives in an attempt to secure their votes. This includes collecting donations for charities. Please address any questions regarding donations to Hager Mohamedein at bgstraditions@gmail.com 25) Candidates may not deface University of Pittsburgh or City of Pittsburgh (public) property. Candidates are able to chalk as long as it is on services that will be washed away when it rains. You are prohibited to chalk on vertical services (side of buildings, steps.) If you chalk on a prohibited place, you will be responsible for removal immediately. 26) All posted materials must be removed by Sunday, October 15th, 2017 by 12:00 pm. 27) By logging onto the portal with their username and password, students will have the opportunity to vote once. The order of the candidates bios and pictures will be randomized each time a new student logs in. The top five King nominees and top five Queen nominees are determined by popular vote, which will comprise the Homecoming Court. This counted vote will also determine the top King nominee and the top Queen nominee who will then be named the University of Pittsburgh 2017 Homecoming King and Queen. The court will be announced on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the fireworks display held in front of the Cathedral of Learning. The announcement of King and Queen will be made during halftime of the Homecoming Game on Saturday, October 14, 2017. 28) Any official candidate shall have access to his or her own total vote information upon request. No candidate will be granted access to any other candidates information or voting totals. 29) Intoxication during any official court activities will be grounds for immediate disqualification. 30) The Homecoming committee reserves the right to amend these rules any time before the official start of the campaign. Candidates with questions about these rules should consult with the Homecoming committee before acting. 31) Any violation of above rules may result in instant disqualification or candidates may be penalized votes as deemed appropriate by the Homecoming Committee. 7
