H E R O N S G L E N R E C R E A T I O N D I S T R I C T Heron News PICKLEBALL AD HOC STUDY COMMITTEE from the Board of Supervisors Volume 3, Issue 2 August 8, 2012 Amenity of Pickleball Pickleball was recognized and approved as an amenity in HGRD earlier this year. For this game, players use perforated plastic balls and wood or composite paddles on a court with a net reaching 34-inches high in its center. Pickleball courts are hard surfaces which are the size of a doubles badminton court. Committee Establishment The supervisors are establishing an ad hoc study committee to assist the Board in its decision-making process regarding what should be included in a plan to develop and/or construct a playing area for the approved Pickleball amenity. Committee members will be appointed at the September 26th HGRD board meeting in order that the committee may begin work in October. Responsibilities The Ad Hoc Study Committee will serve as a fact-finding, research and analytical arm of the Board. The committee will consider, as examples: courts required; cost requirements including equipment and maintenance; neighborhood impact, consideration of possible noise, traffic and parking concerns; and potential impact on resident assessments. The complete charter is on the HGRD website. Volunteers Needed Residents interested in serving on the Pickleball ad hoc Study Committee should first read the charter so they know what will be asked of them and then volunteer on-line, no later than Friday, September 7, 2012, through the online volunteer form. SOCIAL-ITES AUGUST MEETING Ladies of Heron s Glen: Socialites will be held on THURSDAY, August 16, 2012. Please note date change. The June, July and August meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month in the ballroom. The menu will be Chicken Medallions Parmesan over Angel hair pasta. Caprese Salad and Garlic Bread. Dessert will be Mini Cannolis and beverage station. This month s program will be our own chef Mark Benenati who will give a cooking demonstration in the preparation of today s luncheon of Chicken Medallions Parmesan. Remember to sign up in the Activities Book in the Lobby by Thursday, August 9. The food of the month to feed the homeless of North Fort Myers is canned spaghetti or hash, preferably with flip-top lids. New residents who would like to attend may call Terri Nitting at 731-1500 for an invitation. If you know of someone who needs a card sent, please contact Rachel Cecchini at 543-5485.
