This program mainly aims to increase the rural road accessibility, i.e. the share of the Moroccan population that have access to an all-weather road. The objective is to reach 80% of rural road accessibility in 2015, from a baseline of 54% in 2005, through the upgrading or rehabilitation of about 15,500 km of rural roads dispersed all over the country. As of today, rural road accessibility reaches 77% and the disparity of accessibility between provinces has decreased. Page 1 of 5
There is however a financial gap that needs to be filled to complete the program. Given the success of this program, which is supported by several development agencies and funding partners, the government has started preparing a third national program to provide all-weather roads to the most isolated rural areas and to reduce further the disparity of accessibility between provinces.
