Position reports to Position Purpose Qualifications Award (if applicable) Team Leader, Therapeutic Residential Care Reportable Positions The Therapeutic Residential Youth Worker assists in the day to day management of the Residential Care Unit and is responsible for the support and supervision of clients and activities during their shift, in order to provide a safe and nurturing living environment which maximises each young person s potential, health and well-being. Certificate IV in Youth Work essential. Relevant professional experience is required. Personal Competencies Required Job Competencies Required Willingness to work in accordance with The Salvation Army's mission and values, and comply with Official Minutes, policies and procedures. Knowledge of Trauma and Attachment theories, with experience in the delivery of a safe, non-discriminatory, inclusive and confidential service working with a range of consumers. It is highly desirable to have experience working with young people and families. Shows initiative and takes responsibility for meeting personal key performance indicators, in addition to those of the wider team. Demonstrated experience in the management of a case load, including working with a range of stakeholders, complimentary services and statutory authorities to address the needs and abilities of an individual or group of clients. Ability to maintain energy and commitment whilst working within a demanding service, in addition to encouraging enthusiasm within other team members through the creation of a positive and safe workplace culture. Demonstrated ability and experience in working with, designing programs for and managing people who exhibit high risk and/or challenging behaviours. Ability to respond to a wide range of operational issues using initiative and creativity. Demonstrated written and oral communication, negotiation and advocacy skills, including experience in preparing reports for, and working with, a range of internal and external stakeholders. Care Provision, Supervision and Development of Young People Provide care, supervision and personal support to clients relevant to their individual needs, abilities and circumstances. Provide assistance to clients in their physical, intellectual, emotional and social development through individual counselling, structured services, informal interactions, and the modelling of appropriate behaviours. Provide encouragement and advocacy for young people in their interaction with statutory services, community services and the community. Encourage family or guardian contact with the client, where appropriate and gain their involvement in the day-to-day running of the Therapeutic Residential Care Unit and service planning, review and evaluation. Participate in the transition planning for all residents. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including other Therapeutic Residential Care Units, statutory services and other community organisations. Teamwork Assist in maintenance and operation of the Therapeutic Residential Care Unit through a range of essential daily routines and activities. Provide encouragement and support to staff at the Therapeutic Residential Care Unit and across the Therapeutic Residential Care service. Manage clients who display high risk and/or difficult behaviours. Reporting Preparation and maintenance of written reports, including case assessment, planning, management and reviews, risk assessment and management. Participate in verbal reporting to other team members or stakeholders, including participation in verbal reporting at shift handovers. Provide monthly reporting to the Unit Manager and participate in associated discussion. All clients have a customised care plan and transition plan in place, which has been monitored and developed in line with their changing circumstances. Participation of clients in socially inclusive activities, for example education, employment or voluntary work. Participation of families or guardians, where appropriate, in service evaluation. Regular liaison and participation in meetings with a range of internal and external stakeholders. The Therapeutic Residential Care Unit is maintained at the required standard. Active participation within the team activities, including at staff meetings. Incidents of high risk and/or difficult behaviours are reported in compliance with organisational policy, contractual and statutory requirements, with the case plans of clients modified to address concerns. All client files are maintained in compliance with organisational policy, contractual and statutory requirements. Asset Maintenance Maintenance of all service related assets, including motor vehicles, premises and fittings. All service related assets are maintained to a high standard. Administration and Quality Assurance To assist in complying with relevant legislative standards and requirements, including the Victorian Registration Standards for Out of Home Care, Fire Safety Standards and Work Health & Safety requirements. To actively participate in Quality Assurance and Continual Quality Improvement strategies and processes. SalvoCare Eastern and Department of Human Services requirements Documentation and monitoring is as per The Salvation Army SalvoCare Eastern and Department of Human Services requirements and legislation. To keep, maintain and secure designated records, including electronic records. To ensure that a complete and signed handover is given to the incoming worker(s). To ensure accurate and timely reporting of any incidents in line with The Salvation Army and Department of Human Services policies. To maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the young people s information and that of their family. Finance and Resource Management To fulfil all requirements in regards to use of financial and physical resources such as petty cash, vehicle and mobile phone. Staffing To actively participate in supervision with Team Leader, Therapeutic Residential Care To actively participate in individual and/or group supervision with the Therapeutic Specialist.
