GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Gentlemen, Another Bernie Tourney down. We had 68 golfers this year, up about 20 according to Steve the Golf Pro at Capitol City. Ron DeGroot and all his helpers (you know who you are) made this event happen and, even though we had a little glitch with the BBQer, I think it was a resounding success. Ron told me at the officers meeting that so far we have brought in about $11,000.00. So, we should have a nice chunk of change to spread out among the local Catholic Schools. August is a month without a council meeting, but there is still stuff to do. Aug 1st -6th Thurston County Fair Pro Life Booth and Andy's Pizza and Deli will need help. Aug 9th Council Officer Installation and Potluck 6PM at Columbian Hall. Aug. 16th Drexel House Dinner See John Zyrkowski for Details Aug 17th 4th Degree Officers Meeting 6 PM @ Columbian Hall Squires meeting at 7:30 PM. Aug 20th Doughnut Sales at St. Mike's Downtown after 7:30 and 9:30 Masses. Aug 24th 4th Degree Social, Rosary and Meeting 6 PM @ Columbian Hall. Aug 31st 2nd Degree exemplification 6:30 PM at Columbian Hall for info Contact Tom Pursley. Some important events that are coming up in September so mark your calendars. Tootsie Roll Weekend is on 22-24 September this year, we have Both Fred Meyers again this year and Ralph's Thriftway. Mike Reffner will Captain Ralph's and Joe Patnude has Volunteered to Captain Lacey Fred Meyer. I'm looking for a Volunteer for the Tumwater Fred Meyer. I'm going to attempt to get a spot at Lacey Walmart this year, it used to be a great earner for us in the past, wish me luck. Backtracking a bit, I encourage all to come out to the Veterans Cowboy BBQ this year Sunday Sept. 10th. The Meal will be served a bit earlier this year 4PM @ Columbus Park. This is a fund raiser folks, the proceeds go to host 60 veterans to our Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Nov. 11th. Please try to come out and help make this the best we've ever had. Tickets will be out soon for Oktoberfest Sept. 30th @ Hallen Hall, Sacred Heart Parish. Food will again be supplied by the German Diner on Martin Way, there will be plenty of food and libations, please RSVP to yours truly. Respectfully, Michael R. Colosi, Grand Knight Father Nicholas Rausch OSB Council 1643 STATE BULLETIN The Washington State Council of the Knights of Columbus publishes a monthly bulletin. K of C Schola Cantorum We want you!! We are in need of new members. The only requirements are an appreciation of traditional Sacred Music as well as more contemporary and patriotic music, the ability to carry a tune, and the enjoyment of fellowship with other Schola members. We meet on Tuesday evenings, beginning 3-4 weeks prior to a scheduled event, at Pellegrino s Event Center on Littlerock Rd. at 7pm. Light refreshments are usually provided. We sing for such events as Memorial Day Mass at St. Michael Church, followed by ceremonies at Calvary Cemetery, our annual Memorial Day Mass for deceased members at the Hall, our annual Christmas recital for the Council and 4 th Degree Christmas party, and any other special events that we are invited to sing at. We have become especially well known, in past recent years, for our singing of the National Anthem at Cheney Stadium, prior to one of the Rainier s games. If you are interested, please call Sam Pellegrino at (360) 259-7337. Brothers: Passing of Nicholas Win Germain Win Nicholas was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 64 years. He remained a member of council 1643 even after he and his family moved to Alaska a number of years ago. He died on July 7 th in Juneau. The following note was sent to us by Jim Rogers, Financial Secretary of the Juneau Knights of Columbus Council. Win's Rosary is Monday at 6 PM at Cathedral Nativity of BVM, Remembrance at 630 PM followed by potluck reception in St. Ann's Hall. Win was a 3rd degree Knight for 64 years - a member of an Olympic WA Council 1643. Our Council was inactive when he and Maggie moved to Juneau. He never transferred after we reactivated but was always active in the parish. Win and Maggie were one of those couples who helped kick start Alaska Brewing when banks refused financing the startup. They are in the picture of the first bottling line which you see when visiting the brewery. Memorial mass at 9 AM on Tuesday.
