Instructions for Submission: Research Grant Applications Cohen Veterans Bioscience s AMP IT UP Preclinical Program INTRODUCTION Please read these instructions and follow them carefully. Applications that are incomplete, exceed the page limitations, or use undersize or condensed type will not be reviewed. A website has been established for preparation and submission of proposals http:///rfa-ptsd-0002/. Submission of proposals is exclusively electronic for all parts of the proposal. Applications will not be accepted past the indicated deadline. The portal will be closed Midnight last time zone on Earth for the respective due date. Details concerning the website and application process can be found in these instructions and on the Web site itself. Format: All applications must be submitted as ADOBE PDF files using Calibri 11-point font, with a 1-inch left and right margin and must not exceed the maximum page limit allowed for the indicated section. Templates in Microsoft Word format are provided for downloading. CREATE USER ACCOUNT Enter your first and last name, email address, and create your password. You will receive an email confirming your registration. INFORMATIONAL OVERVIEW CALL If you would like to attend the informational overview call, please click the RSVP link, enter your information, and you will receive and email with call details. COMPLETING THE FULL APPLICATION Once you are logged in, click on Select Application on the top right of the webpage and then select Type B or Type C application. We recommend saving your draft work as you progress through the application. 1. Enter the Cover Page details, a. Which consists of the: i. Principal Investigator Name ii. Institution iii. Contact Details 1
iv. Title of the study v. Institutional Officers - provide information concerning your organization s president, financial officer, and director of sponsored research. 2. Enter the Abstract. a. In the text box that opens, insert the Abstract (250 words max) a succinct description of your project in lay person s language. b. You can type this into the online text box directly or copy and paste a summary that you have prepared using a word processor. 3. In Application Forms a. Upload the Project Summary (3 pages max) as a PDF (use provided template) i. Define the following aspects of your project: 1. Background information 2. Current state of the science and/or technology 3. Objectives 4. Please also describe how your proposed research will advance the development of robust, construct-valid, translational models of dysregulated systems in PTSD b. Upload the Work Plan (5 pages max) as a PDF (use provided template) i. Outline the experimental approach and brief research plan c. Enter the number of Key Personnel for whom you will upload biosketches or CVs i. Enter key personnel into text boxes ii. Upload Biographical Sketches or CVs for all professional personnel working on the project (use provided template) in PDF format. d. Upload Facilities & Equipment (2 pages max) as PDF (use provided template) i. Describe the facilities available for the conduct of the proposed research, and ii. List major items of equipment that are available for use in the project e. Upload Timeline & Milestones as PDF (use provided template) i. Should include 1. Monthly Activities a. Gantt chart or other graphical representation encouraged 2. Milestones a. Milestones that indicate important steps toward completion of the project 3. Deliverables a. The deliverables are the concrete, tangible work products resulting from the completion of the project, and b. Explain how and in what form the deliverables may be transferable to other researchers in the academic 2
community and/or industry f. Upload Budget as a PDF (use provided template); note that CVB s indirect rate is capped at 15%. Budget and expenses must be reported in U.S. dollars. i. Please provide a table with the following and include a brief justification for the budget: 1. Salary and Stipend a. Technical and Professional personnel b. Administrative support c. Other salaries 2. Materials and Supplies 3. Services 4. Travel and Knowledge Dissemination a. Team meetings/travel b. Publication cost 5. Other 6. Total by YEAR g. Upload Compliance Documents as PDF (use provided template) i. Statement of Other Support: You are encouraged to apply to other appropriate agencies, in addition to Cohen Veterans Bioscience. If you apply to another agency for support of the same or similar project, be sure to acknowledge the application(s) in this statement. Cohen Veterans Bioscience requires detailed information concerning current and pending support for personnel listed on the application. This information is useful in evaluating any potential overlap with the current application and in identifying potential conflicts of interest. Additionally, it demonstrates higher probability of successfully completing the project. ii. Collaborative Arrangements Letters of collaboration/support from all individuals whose cooperation is necessary for the proposed research should be included as part of the single PDF file uploaded in the Letters section. iii. Research involving Vertebrate Animals - If you plan research with experimental animals, you must provide certification that the institution complies with all Federal, State and Local regulations and with the standards established by the Animal Welfare Acts and the documents entitled "Principles for Use of Animals" and "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals", available from the Office of Protection from Research Risks, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD 20205. If approval has been granted, a copy of the signed and dated approval letter must be submitted as part of the single PDF file uploaded in the Letters. If approval is pending, indicate that the project has been submitted to the committee for review in the Vertebrate Animals section. 3
Payment for a successful application will not begin until such signed and dated approval is received, reviewed and approved by Cohen Veterans Bioscience. h. Upload References (no page limit) as PDF (use provided template) i. To facilitate the review of your application, give the full title and bibliographic reference for all work cited in your application. 4.
