Highland, Indiana Region Model A Restorers Club THE SPOKESMAN Volume 52, Issue 7 P.O. Box 1883 Highland, Indiana 46322 www.highlandmodelaclub.com Director: Ed Javorka (765) 418-7557 javorka@comcast.net Asst. Director: Cynthia Phillips (219) 213-1301 phillipscynthia@att.net Secretary: Russell Smiddy (219) 924-4392 Treasurer: Kim Sefton (219) 836-2081 cyman_46321@yahoo.com Dedicated to the encouragement in acquiring, restoring, preserving and exhibiting the Model A Ford, and to enjoy the fellowship of other Model A Ford owners around the world. A Message from the Director July is upon us. That means parades! I hope as many cars as possible will participate. It is a heck of a lot of fun! Thanks to Chuck Kolar for all his efforts in organizing and coordinating the parade info. I hope everyone enjoyed the MARC Family Feud we had at the June meeting. The Seftons hosted our drive out to LaPorte. Of course, it involved a great dining experience at a local diner. Then, a leisurely stroll through the many antique shops. After the parades, we have our club picnic and Hubley Derby race. Unfortunately, I could not come up with the $350K to sponsor the Gary Air Show which will not be held this year. Our biggest event will be the National MARC Meet in Gettysburg. Since the Meet will coincide with our monthly meeting, we will not have an August meeting unless someone wants to run it. I will be in Gettysburg. We will discuss this at the July meeting. See you there! Ed Javorka The Spokesman is a publication of the Highland Indiana Region of the Model A Restorer s Club, Inc., founded in 1964, and is published monthly. National dues are $45.00. Local dues are $10.00. National Membership is required. Business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the McKinley Masonic Lodge in Schererville, Indiana. This month s meeting is Wednesday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Schererville. Jim McNabney will bring the evening s program featuring Musical Car Jeopardy! Thank you in advance to the Javorkas, the LeMeres and Russell Smiddy for providing the evenings refreshments.

The business meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. on June 7 by Director Ed Javorka. Assistant Director Cindy Phillips led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ed Javorka introduced former members Tony and Connie Adducci, and their grandson who now has his grandparents Model A. TREASURER S REPORT: Kim Sefton reported a 05/24/17 balance of $1,811.94 having described recent deposits and expenditures. A motion was made by Chuck Kolar and seconded by Rich Pramuk to approve the Treasurer s Report as presented. All voiced yes, motion carried. MINUTES: Russell Smiddy presented the minutes of the May 3 business meeting as presented in the June issue of The Spokesman. After discussion a motion was made by Chuck Kolar and seconded by Rich Pramuk to approve the minutes. All voiced yes, motion carried. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Kim Sefton reported membership at 52. It was reported that five cars attended the outing to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Joliet to place flags on the tombstones of Veterans. Henry Ford Day at North Judson school turned out to be a rainy one, but 14 cars attended. An announcement was had regarding the August 27 event to the Gary Railcats game and to invite family and friends to this kid-friendly outing. NEW BUSINESS included an announcement regarding the June 10 drive-out hosted by the Seftons beginning at Meijer, to LaPorte, Indiana. An announcement was made to participate in a parade on June 17 in Schererville. July 4 Parades were announced beginning with the Highland Twilight Parade on July 3, and the Whiting and Crown Point Parades on July 4. I was hoping to have been back in the driver s seat of our A, in time for parade season. Unfortunately, my Driver s Ed instructor bailed on my behind the wheel training! In just a few short weeks it s the National Meet in Gettysburg. I am jealous we are unable to attend - nothing like taking in a vacation with friends, in a beautiful setting, all the while learning some history too! As we approach the Holiday I am reminded of the many people in the HIR who served. There just aren t enough words to express my gratitude so thank you. And I m proud to be an American, Where at least I know I m free, And I won t forget the men who died, Who gave that right to me. Lee Greenwood Happy 4th of July! Here s to Freedom!
