SUMMER CAMPS GUIDE June 5-9 Strider Learn to Bike and Advanced Camps The simplicity of Strider bikes allows children to concentrate on the fundamental skills of balancing, leaning and steering while propelling the bike in a natural way. Strider bikes provide a safe, smooth and natural transition to a pedal bike. Bikes are provided, and helmets are recommended. Limited availability due to low-class ratio: five riders to one instructor. Fencing Camp All Skill Levels This camp is designed for participants of all skill levels. Campers will learn the history of fencing, footwork and blade work (parries and reposts). Coaches will provide level-appropriate instruction for all intermediate, progressive saber and advanced fencers. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a snack, water bottle and non-marking tennis shoes. All fencing equipment and a camp water bottle are provided in the class fee. Explore Archery Camp A versatile archery education program that is fun, rewarding, developmentally progressive and most importantly, safe. In the camps, students can earn the Five Achievement Awards through active participation. Archers will learn about range safety, the type of equipment they use, shot execution, shooting form and scoring. Throughout the week, fun games and activities will be played. All equipment is provided and participants must wear closed-toe shoes. TENNIS Once again the Town of Castle Rock will be offering high-quality tennis programs and lessons for youth and adults. Programs include private and group lessons for all abilities, men s and women s leagues for all levels, drop-in-drills, tournaments and special events. Programs are held at Bison Park and Douglas County High School. SUPERTOTS SPORTS ACADEMY SuperTots Sports Academy is a child physical development program that uses a variety of fun games to delight and engage kids in physical and mental learning through various sports. The curriculum is professionally designed to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness, create self-confidence and prepare young children for sports. It stresses a non-competitive environment and promotes fun above all else. All programs include a size-appropriate shirt and a merit award. All programs are four sessions, $49. Balls are lower in compression so move slower and are easier to hit. This provides processing time and better develops optimal swing patterns. Racquets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover leading to tons of fun without frustration. Camps (four-day sessions) and classes (four-week sessions) are available. COLORADO JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS (AGES 8-18) Director of Tennis, Ben Wolfe will be conducting practices for players of all abilities. Players will be able to practice hard and improve their tennis game in an energetic, fast-paced setting. A great opportunity for young players to get practice playing matches as they compete against local towns and clubs. Over 30 hours of tennis. CAMPS AND CLASSES (AGES 11-16) Classes are for players with little or no formal tennis instruction. Players will learn the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and energetic environment. HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATION CAMPS These four-day camps are designed to prepare current or future high school players for high school tennis success. All strokes are covered, as well as singles and doubles strategies, practice methods/techniques and off court training designed to help players make the varsity team. TENNIS LESSONS Private and group lessons are the perfect way to rapidly improve your game! League shirts for all sports Baseball provides a league shirt and hat PARENT MEETINGS Informational pre-season parent meetings are required for those new to a specific sport and anyone during an evaluation year. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend all meetings for detailed program and/or team information and to make special requests. During these meetings, philosophy and expectations of the program are discussed, as well as information regarding practice and game scheduling. Any special requests can be made at the parent meetings or through teamsideline.com/castlerock. Please note, the Front Desk staff at the Recreation Center and MAC do not take requests. Coaches are required to attend preseason meetings and complete concussion training certification, coach agreements and a background check. YOUTH COACHES TRAINING Castle Rock Parks and Recreation Department prides themselves in offering in-house coach trainings and clinics, often through partnership with local highs schools utilizing their head and/or assistant coaches. ADULT SPORTS (Ages 18+) REGISTERING FOR ADULT LEAGUES All adult league participants should register through teamsideline.com/castlerock. Schedules, upcoming season information and league specific details can all be found through Castle Rock s Team Sideline. All participants must be 18 years of age or older prior to the start of the season. Teams and players may only play at one level of competitiveness in a given sport. This is important for keeping a balance among teams and having our programs remain fun for everyone participating. ADULT LEAGUE TEAM FEES To qualify as a resident team, at least half of the players must be Castle Rock residents. (Resident discounts are not available for leagues held at the MAC). A minimum of $100 must be paid at registration to secure a spot. Remainder of league fees must be paid no later than the date communicated by staff. If the balance of league fee is not paid by this time, your team s position from the league may be forfeited TENNIS Adult tennis leagues are offered through Douglas County Tennis. Meet new players, improve your game and get a weekly workout. Leagues are divided by NTRP levels (2.5-4.5). Leagues are evenings, weekdays or weekends.
