Congratulations to: Mr. Wouter Bam. He obtained his BEng degree in 2012 cum laude and is currently registered for MEng (Process Engineering). Mr. Bam has been accepted by Cambridge University for an MPhil in Industrial System Manufacturing and Management. Ms Camille de Villiers. New Scholarships and Development Opportunities DEADLINE SOON: Brightest Young Minds Summit 2013: "Make a Shift for Africa's Future" The Brightest Young Minds (BYM) annual summit is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, 23-28 July 2013. Considered as one of SA's premier youth leadership and empowering organisations, BYM invites applications for its summit from young, gifted individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who are passionate about social change and leadership development in South Africa and around the world. DEADLINE SOON: Applications to be submitted for the SU Merit Bursary for Postgraduate Students Applications for SU Merit bursaries for postgraduate students who obtained 75% in their preceding degree qualification can still be submitted. This last preceding qualification should be at a lower level than the current registered degree programme according to the National Qualifications Framework. Target: postgraduate students. DEADLINE SOON: New Zealand Development Commonwealth scholarships Scholarships are offered for full-time postgraduate studies that will assist in the sustainable economic development of a student s home country. Preference given to study in agriculture or geothermal development. A range of study option is available such as semester-long Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas etc. Scholarships for study at the Masters or PhD levels continue to be open to South African students via the Commonwealth Scholarship programme. DEADLINE SOON: Italian Government Scholarships: 2013/2014 The Italian Government offers South African and Italian citizens with permanent residence in South Africa the opportunity to apply for scholarships to study in Italy for the academic year 2013/2014. New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships Applications are now open for the 2013 round of New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS). The scholarships see up to 10 international PhD students selected each year for up to 36 months support, including tuition fees and other costs and a living allowance. DAAD Scholarships for Masters in Public Policy and Good Governance 2014 This programme is designed to further qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life. The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree the chance to obtain a Master s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions. Target: Master courses at German institutions. The Scholarship is open to candidates from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia as well as from countries in the Middle East. China Energy Trip 2013 China Energy Trip aims to bring together young people who are interested in green development and international cooperation. Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund: Scholarships available The MMMF was founded in 1981 to honor Margaret Craig McNamara for her commitment to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and children through education. The Stellenbosch University Language Centre s 120-hour TEFL course prepares individuals for a life of adventure teaching English abroad. The University s TEFL certificate and an undergraduate degree will put you in good stead for an overseas EFL teaching position at either a private language school, government school or tertiary institution. Many of our TEFL trainees who successfully completed our course are teaching in countries such as Saudi Arabia, South Korea, China, Thailand as well as here in South Africa. PGIO offers funding for overseas conferences The PGIO has limited funding available for conference attendance for doctoral students in their 3rd year in 2013. The PGIO Overseas Conference Grant (OCG) is a supplementary award to attend an international conference outside of South Africa to present a paper or poster. 2nd and 3rd year doctoral students who intend to present at a conference in 2013, should take note of this opportunity. This grant is awarded on a competitive basis. Please see attached Terms and Conditions document as well as the application form.
