August 14, 2017 Dear Friend: Mentoring is an ongoing process that requires practitioners to reinvent and adapt aspects of our work. The Summit was tremendous. It gave me access to leaders in all different fields, allowed me to connect with similar programs, and hear about successes and outcomes directly from my peers running those programs. This is a very unique opportunity that really helps us as service providers to explore how and when programs work, access research findings, make contacts, collaborate, become rejuvenated and gain a global understanding of what purpose and piece of the puzzle mentoring serves. - Mariam Martinez, Mentoring Practitioner Each year, MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership offers private sector stakeholders the opportunity to support the mentoring field by becoming a sponsor of our annual National Mentoring Summit. The 2018 National Mentoring Summit will take place on January 24-26, 2018 in Washington, D.C. and is the only national forum that brings together over 1,000 youth mentoring professionals, researchers, philanthropic investors, government and civic leaders, and MENTOR s local Affiliates to explore building and strengthening quality relationships for young people across the country. Sponsors play a critical role in helping MENTOR keep registration fees affordable for our nonprofit partners without compromising the quality of conference programming. Within the mentoring field, the Summit is known for providing an unparalleled professional development experience that engages attendees in critical skill building, peer learning, advocacy and networking. It also offers a platform for MENTOR to share the latest research about youth mentoring so that individuals providing or investing in youth mentoring have the tools they need to ensure the highest quality services are being delivered. It is the powerful reflections from mentoring practitioners like Mariam that showcase the impact of the Summit experience and inspire us to continue to expand the reach and offerings of the Summit to support mentoring practitioners in their journey to help more young people. Enclosed are materials outlining this year s sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities. We hope you ll consider joining us as a National Mentoring Summit Sponsor. With your support we will continue to help mentoring practitioners advance program quality and apply the latest research to practice. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss this opportunity further, please feel free to reach out to me by phone at 617-303-4610 or by email at khoward@mentoring.org. In partnership and gratitude, Kristin Howard Senior Director, Development

2017 Summit Highlights Gentlemen of Vision, a community-based program serving young men in St. Louis, opened the Summit with a powerhouse step performance. At a general session focused on advancing educational equity, PBS Frontline documentary subject Omarina Cabrera detailed how her mentor and teacher dusted off the shelves where I stored my dreams. And WNBA legend Swin Cash spoke alongside community officials in a discussion on strengthening community and police relations. The 2017 Excellence in Mentoring Awards were held at the Library of Congress. Honoring individuals who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to expanding quality mentoring for young people, this year s award recipients were: Barbara Gage of the Carlson Family Foundation, Julie Magallanes Guevara of Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters, Connecticut State Rep. Brandon L. McGee Jr. of Ascend Mentoring, and Samuel Powel of Google. The generous founding support of AT&T, coupled with additional support from State Street Corporation and an anonymous donor, enabled MENTOR to launch the Summit Fellowship Program, offering nine Fellows the chance to attend this year s Summit on a special scholarship. Each Fellow was selected based on their leadership potential, eagerness to build professional skills and networks, demonstrated financial need, and personal commitment to helping young people succeed. With the highest numbers ever of attendees, workshops, Capitol Hill Day advocates, Philanthropic Partnerships Track participants, Supporting Partners, tweets, and engagement through our digital event app, 2017 was a record-setting year for the Summit! Exploring topics which ranged from mentoring young people of color to disability mentoring, from employee engagement to critical mentoring, this was a year in which we truly did build relationships and advance the movement. 2017 Philanthropic Partnerships Track I wanted to reiterate how much I appreciate the approach MENTOR took to both honor a distinct philanthropic path and space and create appropriate intersection with the direct service providers and MENTOR. This is how we get to the business of connecting the investment to the work and outcomes and build synergy among funders and those having an impact on youth. The content was rich, relevant, applicable and engaging. [The most valuable part of our Summit experience was] the ability to network with groups and individuals we would never otherwise meet to share ideas and collaborate. A lot of this happened naturally but conversations started out of the fact that there was a Philanthropic Partnerships Track and the luncheon which purposely brought the group together.
