Receiving a scholarship or award can help you manage the cost of study, looks good on your résumé and may even open the door to other benefits such as forming relationships with industry contacts and creating opportunities for work experience and employment. A common misconception is that scholarships are only available for students who perform well academically; however, CQUniversity s range of scholarships and bursaries are tailored to meet the diverse needs and circumstances of our students. While some of our scholarships are indeed awarded on academic merit, others focus on a wide range of criteria such as course of study, home location, commitment to community engagement and income status. We encourage you to apply for and take advantage of the many scholarships on offer. CQUNI CARES CQUniversity prides itself on being an inclusive university and is committed to supporting all students to reach their academic potential and career aspirations. The CQUni Cares s Program assists students with the costs of undertaking study including the purchase of textbooks and resources, travel expenses associated with attending residential schools and completing compulsory unpaid work placements. GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS General scholarships may provide financial assistance if you are commencing study, are a first-year student, demonstrate merit, have a disability or medical condition, come from a regional or rural area, have a low income, are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage or are transitioning into further study at CQUniversity via a pathway such as CQUniversity s Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS), Tertiary Entry Program (TEP), Start Uni Now (SUN) program or VET in Schools (VETiS) program. You can apply for any of the scholarships that relate to your particular circumstances, even if this means applying for more than one scholarship. ADAM SCOTT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship fully funds the tuition and amenities fees of a first-year student who without this support would not be able to attend university. If you are the successful recipient of this scholarship and will receive support for the duration of your course. This scholarship may also assist with expenses associated with living on campus at the Mackay or Rockhampton Student Residences, if required. Alternatively, if you choose not to live on campus and undertake your studies online by distance education, a laptop computer may be provided. Donor: The Adam Scott Foundation Value: up to $50 000 Duration: duration of course BENDIGO AND ADELAIDE BANK SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is committed to supporting youth through various initiatives, including their annual scholarship program. You may be eligible for this scholarship program if you are a full time, first-year undergraduate student studying at an Australian university or college campus for the first time. CQUNICARES ACHIEVE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is designed for continuing students who received a CQUniversity Equity in 2017 and achieved outstanding academic results. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must not be currently enrolled in a first-year unit. This scholarship acknowledges your outstanding academic merit and achievement. Value: $5000 Duration: one year (term 1 and 2) Closing date: visit www.cqu.edu.au/scholarships for more information CQUNI CARES STUDY GRANT The CQUni Cares Study Grant is a one-off grant to assist low income students studying a CQUniversity diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree to supplement some of the education costs incurred as part of their studies. Value: $3000 Duration: one scholarship per year Closing date: apply anytime CQUNICARES LAUNCH SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is a comprehensive package to help you launch your studies at CQUniversity. The scholarship is designed to assist you with start-up study costs in each term including textbooks, residential school expenses and equipment. If you enrol early you are also eligible for an additional boost, with the choice of either a $500 CQUniversity Bookshop credit or a $500 groceries only gift card. cqu.edu.au/scholarships CQUNIVERSITY VICE-CHANCELLOR S PATHWAY SCHOLARSHIPS The CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor s Pathway s are designed to support students transitioning from a CQUniversity pathway program (STEPS, TEP, SUN or VET) as they continue their education with a bachelor s degree. Provided for the duration of your course, this scholarship can assist with general expenses associated with studying an undergraduate degree, such as tuition and textbooks. There are three scholarships available:»» one for a transitioning STEPS or TEP student»» one for a transitioning SUN student»» one for a transitioning VET student. Value: $18 000 ($6000 per year) Duration: up to 4.5 years (full-time study) Closing date: 28 January 2018 DR PHILLIP DONALDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP You may be eligible to benefit from the recognition and financial assistance of this scholarship if you reside in Bundaberg and are commencing your first term of study in a bachelor s degree. This scholarship is in honour of the late Dr Donaldson s life and achievements, and recognises his contribution as an inspiring teacher and gifted researcher. Value: $5000 Duration: one year (term 1 and 2) ENDEAVOUR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS Endeavour s and Fellowships are internationally competitive, merit-based scholarships provided by the Australian Government that may interest you if you are a citizen of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe or the Americas and wish to undertake study, research or professional development courses in Australia, or if you are an Australian wishing to undertake these courses overseas. The Endeavour s and Fellowships build Australia s reputation for excellence in the provision of education and research, support the internationalisation of the Australian higher education and research sectors and offer high-achieving Australians opportunities to increase their knowledge and expertise in their field. GENERATIONONE INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The GenerationOne Indigenous Program aims to foster the next generation of Indigenous leaders through supporting Indigenous students as they embark on tertiary study. The scholarship provides financial assistance to help fund college accommodation costs and/or a stipend for expenses associated with studying and living away from home. This financial support gives you the opportunity to make full use of the personal and leadership development opportunities without the accompanying monetary pressures of living away from home. Donor: GenerationOne Value: varied Duration: duration of course Closing date: 1 October 2017 INDIGENOUS COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS The Indigenous Commonwealth s Program assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from low socio-economic backgrounds, particularly those from rural and regional areas, with costs associated with higher education. IWASAKI FOUNDATION TERTIARY EDUCATION BURSARY If you are living with a medical or mental health condition or disability and are from a disadvantaged background you may be eligible for the Iwasaki Foundation Tertiary Education Bursary. The bursery supports students who would not be able to attend university without financial assistance. The Foundation was established in 1985, funded by a grant of capital from the estate of the late Mrs Yoshi Iwasaki, the wife of the Capricorn Resort founder, Mr Yohachiro Iwasaki. The scholarship is dedicated to the late Jenny Simpson who dedicated 15 years of her life to providing more than 1000 CQUniversity students with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and confidence to embark on a tertiary education. Donor: Jenny Simpson Memorial Fund, CQUniversity Value: $1000 Duration: one year LOU GATTI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship recognises the late Lou Gatti s outstanding contribution to the Bundaberg community, in particular, his efforts to establish services and programs to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. The scholarship will provide recognition and financial assistance to a student residing and studying in the Bundaberg region. Donor: IMPACT, Regional Housing Ltd and Phoenix House Value: $1500 Duration: one year = External agency scholarship GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS 5

REGIONAL WOMENS NETWORK CQ INC. CQUNIVERSITY SUN BURSARY If you are enrolled in CQUniversity s SUN course, you may be eligible for the Regional Womens Network CQ Inc. CQUniversity SUN Bursary, which provides recognition and financial assistance to SUN students. Donor: The Regional Womens Network CQ Inc. Value: $500 Duration: one term WALTER AND ELIZA HALL TRUST OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Opportunity for Students with a Physical Disability may assist you to reach your academic potential and provides financial support to a second-year (or greater) student who demonstrates a need for financial support combined with a diagnosed physical disability. Donor: The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Value: $10 000 Duration: one year WANGAN AND JAGALINGOU CLERMONT ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND (ACDF) SCHOLARSHIPS The scholarships will support two students of Wangan and Jagalingou or Aboriginal descent entering their first or second year of study in any bachelor s degree (including honours) at CQUniversity in 2018. Value: up to $50 000 Duration: four years (full time) or eight years (part time) Closing date: visit www.cqu.edu.au/scholarships for more information ZONTA CLUB OF BUNDABERG STEPS SCHOLARSHIP Zonta is an international organisation that supports the advancement of women worldwide. You may be eligible to benefit from the Zonta Club of Bundaberg STEPS if you are a female student residing in the Bundaberg region who has successfully completed the STEPS course and are enrolled in your first-year of study in any undergraduate CQUniversity degree in 2018. Donor: Zonta Club of Bundaberg Value: $2000 Duration: two years ZONTA CLUB OF GLADSTONE SCHOLARSHIP Zonta is an international organisation that supports the advancement of women worldwide. You may be eligible for the Zonta Club of Gladstone if you are a female student residing in the Gladstone region and are enrolled in your first-year of study in any undergraduate CQUniversity degree in 2018. Donor: Zonta Club of Gladstone Value: $1000 Duration: one year ZONTA CLUB OF MACKAY STEPS SCHOLARSHIP You may be eligible to benefit from the Zonta Club of Mackay STEPS scholarship if you are a female student residing in the Mackay region who has successfully completed the STEPS course and intend to study a CQUniversity degree. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS If you re an international student, we encourage you to check your eligibility for the following scholarships. AUSTRALIA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS The Australia Awards s (AAS) provide opportunities for people from developing countries to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian institutions. CQUniversity administers the AAS for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), allowing you to study at the University and gain the knowledge and skills to help the development of your home country. ENDEAVOUR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS Endeavour s and Fellowships are internationally competitive, merit-based scholarships provided by the Australian Government that may interest you if you are a citizen of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe or the Americas and wish to undertake study, research or professional development courses in Australia, or if you are an Australian wishing to undertake these courses overseas. The Endeavour s and Fellowships build Australia s reputation for excellence in the provision of education and research, support the internationalisation of the Australian higher education and research sectors and offer high achieving Australians opportunities to increase their knowledge and expertise in their field. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP The International Student provides financial support to international undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. This merit-based scholarship provides a generous 20 per cent reduction in tuition fees for the duration of your studies. The International Student is available to all new international undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students who meet the academic criteria at CQUniversity. RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS Eligible research higher degree candidates can benefit from research scholarships offered by the Commonwealth Government and CQUniversity. RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM (RTP)SCHOLARSHIPS Each year the Commonwealth Government makes funding available to universities for domestic and overseas students participating in research training through enrolment in a research higher degree (RHD). As a student enrolled or enrolling in the Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Education, Doctor of Professional Studies or Master s by Research at CQUniversity, you may be eligible for RTP support. RTP OFFSET SCHOLARSHIPS Domestic students who are approved to enrol or are enrolled in a research higher degree course at CQUniversity will be allocated an RTP Offset, funded by the Commonwealth Government and CQUniversity. An RTP Offset will provide you with a tuition-fee-free place for the eligible duration of your course. Donor: Commonwealth Government and CQUniversity Duration: maximum of two EFTSL for master s candidates, or four EFTSL for doctoral candidates^ RTP STIPEND SCHOLARSHIPS Applications are invited from both domestic and international applicants for RTP Stipend s. These merit-based scholarships are awarded competitively. The RTP Stipend will assist you with living costs while undertaking your RHD. Donor: Commonwealth Government Value: $26 682 (2017 rate) or pro-rata for eligible part time candidates Duration: maximum of two EFTSL for master s candidates, or three EFTSL for doctoral candidates^ Closing Date: 31 October 2017 CQUNIVERSITY FUNDED RESEARCH HIGHER DEGREE SCHOLARSHIPS CQUNIVERSITY RESEARCH STIPEND SCHOLARSHIPS Applications are invited from both domestic and international applicants for CQUniversity Research Stipend s. These merit-based scholarships are awarded competitively. The CQUniversity Research Stipend will assist you with living costs while undertaking your RHD. APPLY EARLY For many of the scholarships detailed in this brochure, applications open in August 2017 and closing dates may occur before you have been offered a place of study with CQUniversity, so it is practical to apply for scholarships early even if it means applying prior to receiving an offer. APPLY FOR MORE THAN ONE SCHOLARSHIP Provided you meet the scholarship eligibility criteria and guidelines, you can apply for more than one scholarship, so we encourage you to apply for many of the scholarships available in 2018. It s a good idea to check the scholarship guidelines at www.cqu.edu.au/scholarships for any restrictions in relation to receiving multiple CQUniversity scholarships at one time. If you are successful in your applications for multiple scholarships and restrictions are in place, you will be required to choose your preferred scholarship. When completing your application online be sure to follow the prompts and provide any relevant supporting documentation. As part of the application process for scholarships that include low income or financial disadvantage as selection criteria, you will be required to provide a current Centrelink Income Statement and/or three current payslips. These documents are evidence of your income status and are used to assess your eligibility.
