2 AfDB Business Opportunities Seminar (BOS) Date June 20-21, 2017 Venue Abidjan, Côte d ivoire - Headquaters Building Auditorium Hosted by Resource Mobilization & Partnerships Department Background The African Development Bank (AfDB) is conducting a Business Opportunities Seminar (BOS) on 20-21 June 2017 on AfDB financed projects. BOSs are one-stop fora for consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers from the Bank Group s member countries looking to provide goods and services to AfDB Group projects in Africa. BOSs help strengthen the relationship between the AfDB and its shareholders. Sectors to be covered are the Bank s High 5 priorities, in particular, infrastructure (energy, transport), water and sanitation, agriculture and human development. Objectives The BOS is intended for participants to: Learn about the Bank Group s strategic directions, operational priorities, project pipelines and ongoing sovereign and non-sovereign operations; Hear about the Bank Group s financial products and instruments; Meet with Bank Group sector (and if requested, regional) specialists; Meet with Bank Group staff in procurement, project management and related operations; Network with other consulting firms and suppliers in non-regional and regional member countries of the Bank Group; Listen to presentations on how to qualify for AfDB-financed contracts; and Discover what business opportunities are available, and where across Africa. At the end of the BOS, participants would have: Discovered the advantages of AfDB-financed contracts; Obtained a sound understanding of the AfDB's policies and procedures for the procurement of goods and works, and the recruitment of consultants; Learned how to locate business opportunities; Learned the best ways to prepare responsive bids and proposals; Received first-hand information on contracting opportunities by sector currently available under ongoing AfDB-financed projects, and upcoming AfDB pipeline projects by region; and Explored areas of cooperation with other participants at the BOS. Expected Outputs The BOS expects to increase the pool of competent providers of goods and services that can qualify for AfDB projects, thereby contributing to the efficient implementation and ultimate success of Bank Group-financed projects.

3 AfDB Business Opportunities Seminar (BOS) Program The two-day event will consist of plenary sessions as well as one-one-one sessions to allow for more in-depth discussions on the various sectors, geographic distribution of projects etc. The program will be built around the following parts: 1. Presentation by the Strategy and Operational Policy Department (SNSP). 4. Presentations by relevant Sectoral and Regional Departments. Ongoing and potential operations in sectors of interest to the participants (including on Infrastructure and Industrialization; Power, Energy and Green Growth; Agriculture and Agro-Industry; Agriculture Finance and Rural Development, Water Development and Sanitation). One-on-one Meetings Overview of the Bank Group, its vision, strategy including emerging initiatives, policies as well as general operational activities highlighting the current lending program. (This will include information on projects in the pipeline for future financing). One-on-One Meetings will be held on Wednesday, 21 June from 10h15 to 18h00. They will allow for in-depth bilateral discussionsbetween the Bank staff and interested BOS participants. 2. Presentation by the Fiduciary and Financial Management and Procurement Policy Department (SNFI). Public and private sector business opportunities outlining the procurement rules and procedures, statistics on procurement under Bank Group financed projects, as well as the avenues for accessing opportunities. 3. Presentation by the various Departments conducting non-sovereign operations. Non-sovereign business opportunities highlighting the opportunity for private sector operations in Africa. However, participants must send us their requests for one-on-one meetings as soon as possible and indicate their area(s) of interest prior to the event.. A valid passport is required for entry into Côte d Ivoire. The validity of passports must be for at least six months from the date of entry into Côte d'ivoire. Arrival and Transportation The international airport is Felix Houphouet Boigny airport and many airlines have direct flights to and from Côte d Ivoire. Security For security reasons, the presentation of a valid picture identification will be required to access the Bank. Wi-Fi Wi-Fi will be available throughout the meeting venue. The login credentials will be provided to participants at the time of registration. Travel and other costs While attendance to the event is free, AfDB does not cover the daily subsistence for the participants. Participants will likewise, be responsible for all travel-related costs for participation in the BOS. This includes return airfare, hotel accommodation, daily subsistence, ground transport, and visas, if required. Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for lunch.
