Beloved of God, It is hard for me to believe it is June already and that summer is around the corner. Some of our families finished up school the last week of May, some the first week of June, and others the second week. I know our boys are counting down the days! All that to say, summer is upon us! There are some different things happening this summer here at LVHPC, and I want to make sure you are aware of what is going on. First, there is no 2 nd Hour Sunday School (after worship) for children beginning June 17 th. That programming will start back up in August. This change is an attempt to give some of our wonderful volunteers some time to rest. This change also allows Peggy more time to plan for the next school year. Second, if you haven t heard, we are going to be doing something different this summer for VBS. Instead of a traditional weeklong program, we will be holding a VBS themed carnival on Back to School Sunday in August. Vol. 50, No. 6 This will be a fun experiment as we try something new this year. More information will be available in the future. Third, last year I tried an experiment that was new to me. For the first time in my ministry, I took the vast majority of my vacation during the month of July instead of spreading it through the year. (You may recall that our family made a road trip to Oklahoma!) I found it to be wonderfully refreshing and will be doing something similar this summer. I will also be taking some time over the summer months for planning. What all this means is that I will be out of the pulpit for a while beginning June 24 th. During the month of July our lovingly named feral pastors (Paul Boles, Scott Cormode, Steve Davis, and Marguerite Shuster) and our parish Associate Lauren Evans will be preaching a series on the Lord s Prayer. I will be back in the pulpit the second week of August. We are blessed to have these individuals in our midst, and I look forward to each of them sharing their gifts and proclaiming God s Word to us! If you have not yet had a chance to sign up for the Quakes game at the end of June, 2018 June there is still time. It is going to be a lot of fun and we would love to have you join us! Please contact the church office for more information. As we begin this month, both the Session and the staff will be away on separate retreats. The Session will be away June 1 st and 2 nd and the staff will be away June 4 th through 6 th. Please keep us all in your prayers during these retreats. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and fellowship for the Session, and for discernment, fellowship, and rest for the staff. I hope you enjoy a wonderful start to these summer months! I look forward to seeing you in worship! Jonathan Mission Statement Following Jesus. Growing together. Sharing God s love with neighbors near and far.
