Receive college course credits for your military training. Review a personal transcript or have an official transcript sent to the university of your choice to be converted into college credits. Having college credits or a degree makes it more likely that you will be hired.
Register on the Joint Service Transcript site: https://jst.doded.mil/smart/registration.do
Select Transcript link on left side of screen.
View, save, or print unofficial transcript results.
Select Summary link in Transcript menu to view, save, or print a summary of credits.
Suggested course names and semester hours will be listed for your military training. These courses can help you identify potential job fields in which you may already be qualified for and also narrow your job search.
Select Official Transcript Request in Transcript menu and then enter the school name that you want your transcripts to be sent.
Review your service awards and evaluation reports for specific accomplishments. Identify positions held using your Enlisted Record Brief or Officer Record Brief. Use counseling forms to generate more ideas.
Awards, such as achievement awards and commendation medals, will have an official form accompany the award that lists examples of accomplishments justifying the award. Use specific examples from your awards: Mentored, accounted for, and prepared 58 Future Soldiers for Initial Entry Training while Maintaining a 97% accession rate. Winner of the Battalion Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter Board for 3 rd QTR FY 07.
Evaluation reports will also list specific examples of accomplishments that can be used as bullets on you resume. Use similar language and writing style as found in your evaluation reports: Maintained the personnel database, training records, jump logs, key control, and conducted in and out processing of 150 man company. Trained 18 Soldiers to qualify first time with a M-4 Carbine, 10 of which fired Expert.
Review your Enlisted or Officer Record Brief to ensure that any duty position held is listed on your resume as well.
List any service schools you attended, other than Initial Entry Training, in your resume s Education or Training section in addition to any civilian schools.
List any other awards or achievements, not listed elsewhere on your resume, that you have.
Department of Labor allows for veteran preferences in federal employment and civilian employment with contractors or subcontractors that have federal government contracts.
