T-O-A-L, NAEP Texas Oklahoma Arkansas Louisiana Region, National Association of Educational Procurement Networking News Volume 08, Issue 2 April, 2008 Message From The President TOAL Members, It s been and exciting couple of months for your board and TOAL! Last month, we had our site visit at the host hotel in Rogers, AR in anticipation of the Annual Meeting in September! We were all very excited after touring the facilities and discussing the possibilities for the meeting. The Rogers/Bentonville area is also full of great restaurants and shopping opportunities that you can take advantage of during downtime and on your own time at the meeting. However, based on the great program that Kevin Holmes and the Program Committee are putting together, you re not going to want to miss anything! Based on feedback that we ve received from past meetings, we have focused on packing as many continuing education hours into the meeting as possible. We are also exploring some registration tools to make your registration process as automated and seamless as possible, and, for the first time, we are also utilizing E&I s Melanie Tassone as a resource for meeting planning and coordination. Melanie joined us at the site visit and planning meeting in March, and has already made a huge impact on the meeting with her experience and suggestions. As some of you may have heard, TOAL has a new website, www.naeptoal.org. Thanks to everyone that played a part in this new and professional representation of the region! TOAL was represented very well at the NAEP Annual Meeting in Austin. The host committee, led by Karen Gross and Alan Phillips, fresh off their host committee duties in Galveston at the 2007 TOAL Annual Meeting, did an incredible job and represented our region extremely well, as did all of the other volunteers that played a role in the success of the meeting. Thanks to everyone from the TOAL region that volunteered and attended. As most of you know, our Treasurer, Carol Barnhill, was elected to the National Board as 2 nd Vice President. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Carol as well as my sincere thanks for her continued dedication and service to TOAL and NAEP. As a consequence of Carol s election, the TOAL Board will have two positions, Treasurer and Secretary, that will need to be filled this year.

I am establishing nominating committees now, so please contact anyone on the current board if you are interested in serving in these capacities or in any other capacity for the upcoming year. As you can see, your TOAL board has been hard at work to continue to bring you the highest quality educational, developmental, and networking opportunities, continuing our own Evolution to Revolution to make our region the best in the association! Thanks for your continued and future support! NEW TOAL Website Please take the time to view our new TOAL website at the following web address http://www.naeptoal.org If you see something that is missing, incorrect or would like to make a suggestion, please drop an email to any of your TOAL officers. Rob Parker, C.P.M., C.P.I.M. TOAL President 2007-2008 TOAL ListServ Vendor Expo We have some changes planned for you this year with the vendor expo. We are going to host the vendor show on Monday, September 29 th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with horsd oeuvres being served at 5:00 p.m. We are still working on the registration form, but it will soon be posted to our NEW TOAL website, http://www.naeptoal.org for you to distribute to your vendors. Pricing for vendors will remain the same as last year as well as the sponsorship opportunities. Keep checking the site for updated information. If there are any questions, please contact Alan Phillips at alan@uh.edu. Alan Phillips, CPPB, CTP, CTPM TOAL 2 nd Vice President Make sure you are on the TOAL ListServ. All important information is distributed through the ListServ. We do not want you to miss any exciting news in reference to our up coming Annual TOAL meeting in Rogers, Arkansas! http://www.naepnet.org/am/template.cfm?section=list serv_egroups_ Scholarship Opportunities This year, there are many scholarship opportunities for those TOAL members seeking financial assistance. 1) The TOAL board voted to again award ten $300 scholarships. 2) TOAL will provide a $500 Sally Donaldson Rawls Memorial scholarship. 3) NAEP will provide a $1,000 William E. Hass scholarship. Scholarship applications are available on the TOAL website, and all applications are due by May 16, 2008. These scholarships may be used to attend an upcoming TOAL or NAEP annual meeting, or other educational opportunity provided through TOAL or NAEP.

A special thank you for your contributions to the Sally Donaldson Rawls scholarship. Sally departed from this life on September 10, 2007, but leaves behind a wonderful legacy of serving higher education procurement. To honor Sally, we are pleased to provide a $500 scholarship to a TOAL member in Sally s name. TOAL and NAEP offer some wonderful educational events, and this is an excellent way to obtain some financial assistance. I look forward to hearing from you. Tom Hoffmeyer Chair, Scholarship Committee Program Update The program for the upcoming conference is coming along extremely well. After carefully examining the evaluations from last year, we decided to increase the number of program credit hours that are available next year. We have contracted with Patrick Henrey to provide some teamwork training and music at the opening reception. He will also provide the keynote speech at the opening session. Some of the other sessions that we working on include a couple of legal sessions with Tom Pennington, J.D., who spoke at the Hot Springs conference a few years ago, and some sessions from local corporate executives on Customer Service and Leadership. All of this in addition to the GREAT speakers who step up from the TOAL region should make this year s conference a must. Please don t get left out if you want to present, contact me as soon as possible at Kevin.holmes@okstate.edu. Kevin Holmes, C.P.M.
