Press Release 24 May 2018 HKHS 70 th Anniversary Roving Exhibition Launching Ceremony cum Award Presentation Ceremony of Cross-generation Harmony Microfilm Competition The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) held the Launching Ceremony of its 70 th Anniversary Roving Exhibition today (24 May) at City Gallery. The ceremony was officiated by HKHS Chief Executive Officer Wong Kit-loong, Senior Curriculum Development Officer (Liberal Studies) of Education Bureau Charles Chow, Senior Development Manager of HKEdCity Ling Hung and Honorary Adviser to the Hong Kong Museum of History Cheng Po Hung. On the same occasion, awards were presented to the winning schools of the Cross-generation Harmony Microfilm Competition for Secondary Schools 2017/18 held earlier. This roving exhibition is one of the celebration events for the 70 th Anniversary of HKHS. Through the precious old photos with text and video illustrations, members of the public are enabled to get a deeper understanding of the housing development in Hong Kong and the accomplishments of HKHS over the past 70 years. A 1:1 model recreating a domestic flat of the first rental estate of HKHS Sheung Li Uk in the 50s was exhibited, together with the display of historical items such as Rent Record Card, showcasing the living conditions of the residents in the early days. The Education Bureau, being a supporting organisation of the Roving Exhibition, will make use of the exhibitions to organise learning activities, such as talks and docent tours, for teachers of Liberal Studies, on topics related to housing development. With its first stop at the City Gallery in Central, the exhibition will move to different venues across the territory, where members of the public can visit with free admission. Details of the exhibitions are as follows:

Visitors can learn more about the old Hong Kong through the sharing of local anecdotes and nostalgic culture. Press Release HKHS Chief Executive Officer Wong Kit-loong said, In the face of the ageing population in Hong Kong, the Housing Society embarked on elderly housing projects at the end of the 90 s, providing an innovative ageing-in-place solution to the elderly. To encourage the new generation to explore the topic of Cross-generation Harmony from different perspectives, the Housing Society launched its first Microfilm Competition for Secondary Schools this year. We hope that the competition could initiate discussions among the youngsters and arouse public awareness over the issues of ageing population and inter-generational communication. To prepare the students for the competition and familiarise them with the issue of ageing population, HKHS arranged tours for the contesting teams to visit the Housing Society Elderly Resources Centre and MIND-Friendly Home Exploration Centre last November, along with a workshop on microfilm production hosted by veteran film practitioners. All the winning entries are available for viewing on HKHS website (http://microfilm.hkhs.com).
