22 March 2017 The Self financing Post secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) aims to encourage and give recognition to students by offering scholarships and awards. It also aims to attract outstanding local and non-local students to pursue studies in self-financing post-secondary programmes at non profit making educational institutions. The Hong Kong Shue Yan University takes pride in having 245 students awarded scholarships and awards under the scheme this year. (A) Outstanding Performance Scholarship (OPS) This scholarship aims to offer local and non local students with outstanding academic achievements. ZHONG, RUOLAN (D) Reaching Out Award (ROA) This award enables students to participate in learning, internship or service programmes which are mainly course or placement related as well as national, regional and international events and competitions that are conducted outside Hong Kong. The outreaching activities should either be organized or endorsed by HKSYU. The award aims at equipping students with an international vision, broadening their exposure to multicultural environment and enhancing their communication skills in English, Putonghua or other languages. The awardee should have satisfactory academic performance. Six HKSYU students receive this scholarship and each of them is awarded HK$10,000 in the 2017/18 academic year. Page 7

The Presentation Ceremony The Presentation Ceremony for SPSS, which is jointly organized by the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund and the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund will be held in April 2018. Details are as follows: Date: Time: Venue: 24 April 2018 (Tuesday) 3:30 p.m. Theatre 1 & 2, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wanchai In view of the limited capacity of the venue, only FOUR awardees of each category (OPS, BPA, TDS, ROA), a maximum of 16 awardees can join the Presentation Ceremony. Seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. A confirmation email will be sent to the successful applicants in early April. Those applicants who do not receive any confirmation email will be placed on the waiting list. If you are interested, you may enrol online (https://goo.gl/forms/e6hrnia2xwojnbp02) for the Ceremony by 6:00 p.m., 28 March 2017 (Wednesday). Applications through phone or email are NOT accepted.
