Technology Adoption Case Studies Case Study for API: Network load balancing software solution Starting the Conversation Avi Networks is a software-defined load-balancing platform introduced to our Silicon Valley lab whilst still in stealth mode. Understanding and respecting their sensitive position was important, but the potential was immediately obvious. Identifying the Demand Challenge Avi s highly configurable software platform had the potential to help configure load-balancing needs directly and dynamically. Evaluating the Opportunity Shortly after our introductory meeting, we met with Avi to conduct a comprehensive review of their solution. While we found the solution potentially game-changing, we hadn t yet found the right group to connect them with immediately.. During our discussion of pain points and needs, they explained they were looking to enhance their ability to support deployed application workloads. Adopting a Solution After Avi successfully delivered their pilot project, adopted the solution. is a shining example of technology innovation in financial services done right, says Guru Chahal, VP of Product Management at Avi Networks. Avi Networks and DB Labs were connected early in our journey and we were pleasantly surprised at the proactive and forwardthinking outlook at DB Labs that led to our introduction to. Case Study for UX: Web-based eye-tracking for UX issues Starting the Conversation Eyevido is a cost-effective eye-tracking solution that uses a small device to track a user s eye movements. It recognizes what the user looks at and for how long displaying the results in a heat map. The Berlin lab first met the Eyevido team at Cebit. Identifying the Demand Challenge One of the challenges for s Retail Bank unit was identifying an easy-to-use and flexible solution to conduct eyetracking studies. We saw Eyevido s solution as a way to strengthen the unit s customer-centric approach to products and services. Evaluating the Opportunity Prior to introducing the company to our colleagues at Digital Factory, our team conducted a thorough investigation into Eyevido s capabilities. We helped close anticipated feature gaps and shape Eyevido s roadmap to better fit the bank s needs. We then introduced them to Digital Factory and helped to draft a proof of concept phase that included more than a hundred tests and more than a dozen studies. Adopting a Solution After a successful proof of concept phase, Digital Factory funded the adoption of Eyevido. From the very beginning of the collaboration between Eyevido and the Customer Lab, Eyevido has customized their solutions to our needs. It s since become a vital part of their research offering. Case Study for AI: Automate processes & keep data integrity Starting the Conversation Labs New York had followed the growth of WorkFusion since its early days at the MIT Research Lab. The startup distinguished itself by creating a platform that automates the time-consuming process of training and selecting machine learning algorithms for work that s too complex for robotics. Identifying the Demand Challenge The labs team identified a number of opportunities to integrate WorkFusion s platform into the bank s ecosystem. We began with Trade Finance Operations in India who were eager to experiment with new technologies to improve the way they managed incoming documents. Evaluating the Opportunity The Labs managed a proof of value with Trade Finance Operations using a small sample of our day-to-day data flows. Based on insights from initial proofs of value, our Asset Management Operations unit also signed on to explore a potential partnership. Adopting a Solution Asset Management Operations found WorkFusion s platform to be a compelling technology with impressive results. The relationship has succeeded because The Labs found someone at the right level within the bank with the vision to understand the immense impact of this technology and the positive effect it would have on s work and employees. 8

During the development phase we discussed many new and innovative ideas that will help our business over the long-term to grow sustainably, e.g. we developed together a new Job Shadowing platform to improve communication across departments. In partnership with the Innovation Labs we have been able to build a substantial commercial partnership. At this stage Deutsche Bank is our biggest customer with more than 4,500 users of our services! We are looking forward to a long-lasting cooperation with in the future. - Christoph Drebes, Co-Founder, Mystery Lunch We met the DB Labs at a very early stage. Back then, the first prototype of our software was just ready for use. The Labs recognized the potential of our solution and we agreed on a joint test phase. This resulted in a proof-ofconcept collaboration with the Digital Factory. Constant feedback cycles shaped Eyevido s roadmap and we jointly closed anticipated feature gaps. The close connection with the Customer Lab helped us to tailor our product to the needs of the bank and led to a customeroriented further development. Christoph Schaefer, Co-Founder & CEO of Eyevido Working with DB Labs has been a pleasure. We particularly like their approach to light-touch persuasion and motivation with the organization. Working with a pragmatic and positive attitude, the team are able to help internal stakeholders look beyond the inherent risks and immediate challenges to change. As Smartify s first large corporate client, we have learned valuable lessons which we will take into conversations with future partners.
