Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we seek to share the person and message of Jesus, the Christ, through the vibrant celebration of the Word and Sacraments within our parish community and by serving the various needs of the people of our neighborhoods through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. ST. MARIA GORETTI PARISH Father Lou Pascazi Excerpted and adapted from Evangelization Hearing the Word and Keeping it by Fr Bill Waters in The Priest magazine, 6/30/2016 http://bit.ly/2tudrtu for full article. As Christ was anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, may you live always as a member of his body May the Lord touch your ears to receive his word, and your mouth to proclaim his faith from the Baptism Ritual. I truly believe that the crisis in the Church in the United States is not the lack of ordained priests, but the shortage of lay people who truly understand their own priesthood. When we think of evangelization, we often think of big projects. Or we think of being on street corners, holding signs and confronting people as they walk by. Evangelization can be incorporated into the very ordinary events of life. Some suggestions: Take a parish bulletin to someone who does not ordinarily receive it. How often does someone say, I didn t know they had Masses at that time or I didn t know the parish had exposition, rosary, bowling, AA? Invite someone to Mass. Some people may not have a way of getting to Mass, or for many reasons do not want to go alone. Invite someone to a parish event, like the anniversary picnic. Tell someone about a good church experience, such as a homily, a confession, a song. Tell someone you will pray for them or invite them to pray with you. If away on a weekend with family or friends, make a point of getting to Mass. There are even apps for that. Wear a religious symbol, pin or cross, and see the conversation that can evolve. Inform someone new in your neighborhood about your parish. Say, God bless you when someone sneezes. Bless yourself and your food with the Sign of the Cross when eating out. Celebrate baptism anniversaries... Put the Baptism Candle on a cake each year... frame the baptism certificate and place it on the wall like a diploma. These are all very simple suggestions (and there are certainly many more) for lay people to live their priesthood in very ordinary, everyday circumstances. Father Lou PITTSBURGH, PA FOOD BANK CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BLOOMFIELD: Held every 3rd Saturday of the month at the Saint Maria Goretti Liberty Campus Social Hall, 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Need to show proof of ID, address and income, and live in the 15224 zip code below Penn Avenue and above Liberty Avenue. The next food pantry is scheduled for Saturday, July 15. Goretti Women Please note there will be no meeting in July. The August meeting will be held on Monday, August 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Social Hall. We will help set up the flea market which benefits the parish school and youth group. Pizza and soft drinks will be served. Don t forget to mark your calendars for Friday, September 29, when we will host an Art Party at the Friendship Campus. Additional details will be included in future bulletins. If you have any questions, please call Linda Vacca at 412-837-1641. PRAYER OF SAINT MARIA GORETTI Heavenly Lord and Father of us all, we gather as your people under the patronage of your saint, Maria Goretti. Through her example of virtue and faith may we draw strength. May her prayers guide us and sustain us in times of challenge as well as in times of joy. Give us the grace to love and forgive, the grace to struggle and to accept, the grace to believe and to act in good will and in hope. Through her intercession, may we be bound together as a unified community of faith to do your will and bring the message of Jesus to our part of the world. We make this prayer through the intercession of Saint Maria Goretti and in Jesus name. Amen. 2017 Masses Requests are now being accepted for July 1 through December 31. Request forms are available in the vestibules of all the campuses and at the Parish Office. Mass stipends are $10 per Mass and must accompany the request form. You may only schedule one weekday and one weekend Mass.

A Parish Grouping is a configuration of parishes that will work together during the years that follow to form a new parish, a new community of faith. The Parish Groupings were created based upon input from clergy and parishioners, as well as demographic, financial and other data. The Parish Groupings that are proposed, together with the final feedback from parishes, are now being studied by the On Mission Commission, who will make their recommendations to Bishop Zubik later this year. Have you seen the proposed Parish Grouping for your area? Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more it and to stay informed.
