Two Successes, What s the Connection? Library board vice president, Phyllis Sweeney, is Civitan's Citizen of the Year Award recipient. The Civitan Citizen of the Year award recognizes individuals who promote good citizenship through outstanding voluntary service to the community. Sweeney began serving on the Knox County Public Library Board in March, 2011. Appointed by the North and South Knox School Boards to fill the unexpired term of Beverly Stangle, Sweeney was appointed for a full term in December, 2015. The connection between the two: Phyllis Sweeney was Brain Spangle s first grade teacher. On November 6 th in the Eli Lilly Hall, Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis, Brian Spangle received the prestigious Hubert Hawkins Award, which is made annually to a local historian for his or her distinguished career in local history. 2
