CCEDC 2017 JOYCIE TURNER SCHOLARSHIP Collin County Economic Development Corporation gives out every year scholarships to high school seniors in Collin County. The scholarship is named after Joycie Turner the founder of Fellowship Baptist Church of Allen now known as Fellowship Christian Center Church. They have given over $100,000 in scholarships over the past 11 years.

The CCEDC awards non-renewable scholarships to graduating high school seniors living in Collin County based on several criteria listed below. 2. WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP? Any current high school senior that plans to attend an accredited institution of higher learning, or a twoyear technical training school. 3. WHAT ARE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS? The following criteria will be considered by the Joycie Turner Scholarship Committee for the purpose of awarding scholarships: 1. GPA /Academic Awards/Honors/Special Recognitions 2. Community Service/Volunteerism 3. School Activities 4. Two Letters of Recommendations: a. Community leader, Church Leader, or Employer. b. Teacher, Guidance Counselor, or Principal. 5. A Typed Essay (minimum of 300 words in length no more than 500) 6. Return of Completed Application Forms NO LATER THAN Wednesday May 3, 2017. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 4. WHEN AND WHERE WILL RECIPIENT NAMES BE ANNOUNCED? Winners will be notified by phone call and email followed by an official letter. 5. HOW WILL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS BE DISTRIBUTED? All recipients must submit a letter of acceptance from their institution of choice and a copy of their fall class schedule to Frank Gray, Jr. or Sonya Lamey as proof of acceptance in order to receive their scholarship checks. MANJU AND DR KUMAR SCHOLARSHIP FUND GUIDELINES FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Manju & Dr Kumar Scholarship Fund serves to assist financially challenged students in the Collin County area who have plans to pursue higher education. The scholarship is designed to help selected students achieve their goals of educational excellence despite their financial difficulties. The scholarship will assist selected students by providing them with $1000 each year for 4 years. In order to apply for the scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: Collin County resident for a minimum of 4 years. A commitment to attend a 4 year university undergraduate program on a full-time basis High school grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.8. Maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher during their college career (It s extremely important, please contact your Dean's Office, how to submit your GPA to us). Demonstrate financial need. Complete an application, which includes a one-page essay explaining what their goals and aspirations are for the future and how they will use their undergraduate education for the benefit of their community. Provide transcript of SAT/ACT scores. Final selection of the scholarship winners will be decided by approval of the Board of Directors of Manju & Dr Kumar Scholarship Fund. No member of the Manju & Dr Kumar Scholarship Fund, Board or their immediate family is eligible for scholarship assistance. Manju & Dr Kumar Scholarship Fund shall notify the chosen scholarship recipient(s) of its decision. The scholarship payment will be made after Manju & Dr Kumar Scholarship Fund reviews and verifies the college that the student will be attending. Payment will be made through Dean/Student Financial Aid office of University/school. Completed applications must be submitted by May 01, 2017.

7. 2017-2018 NORTH TEXAS LATIN AMERICAN PHYSICIANS ASSOCIATION'S (NTLAPA) "MAKE A DIFFERENCE" UNDERCLASSMAN SCHOLARSHIP The North Texas Latin American Physicians Association Charitable Foundation (NCF) is a non-profit organization; our mission is to optimize the medical health and support of the Hispanic and underserved community in North Texas. Our aim is to support medical oriented college students as well as medical students with scholarships. We also want to unify and represent all Hispanic physicians and healthcare providers of North Texas. This year NTLAPA awarded $16,500 in scholarships to 7 medical students and 5 undergraduate well-deserved students. The purpose and mission of the NCF is to be a charitable organization supporting students in medical and medically related education as well as those educational programs primarily in North Texas; support medically related relief for the poor, the distressed, and the underprivileged primarily in North Texas via promotion of health, wellness, and related education through community outreach programs; and to support selected charitable organizations primarily in North Texas. The goal of the NTLAPA is to become one of the most influential Latin/Hispanic Physician Associations in North Texas. We currently have over 80 members. As we continue our non-profit organization, we aim at having over 200+ members and affiliates. UPASNA S SCHOLAR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 'UPASNA' - Uttareeya Pradesh Antarashtriya Samiti of North America, translates to International Association of North Indian States of North America, is the largest North Indian non-profit 501 (c)(3). UPASNA was incorporated as a non-political, non-religious and non-profit organization. UPASNA's foundation lies in the North Indians and shall always be in pursuit of useful and essential projects in literacy, education, sanitation, disease prevention, health improvement and rehabilitation. UPASNA SCHOLAR DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (USDC) plans and administers the scholar development process open to all young students regardless of gender, ethnicity, or national origin. One of the main current projects planned by the USDC is the start of two scholarships of $4000.00 each for high school graduates in 2017 & 2018, winner of one to be announced at the UPASNA Day in the coming month of April and the application for the other to be open to public on the same day. Each of these two scholarships will be awarded and distributed within a period of four years to support students undergraduate education at a college or university of their choice. The scholarship recipients will be selected by the USDC based on meaningful criteria at the beginning of their undergraduate education. The recipients will also be subjected to yearly evaluation by the Committee to make sure that they stay on course in achieving excellence based on selected criteria. Decision of the USDC will be final and binding and not open to further arbitration.

The criteria for the initial selection of recipients shall include: Objective scholastic scores based on high school unweighted GPA (of 3.8 or higher) and ACT/SAT. Submit transcript of SAT/ACT scores and school transcripts with the application. Commitment to attend a 4-year university undergraduate program on a fulltime basis Submission of an essay stating why are you a deserving candidate for this scholarship, your academic goals and plans as well as the knowledge and experiences gained through having a direct involvement with the Asian Indian Cultural Heritage activities, such as music, arts, etc. (Not to exceed 2 pages) Excellent social behavior and direct involvement in social activities of any non-profit organizations for minimum of 40 hours. The final selection of recipients will also involve a face to face interview by the Committee Incomplete applications will not be considered and will automatically be disqualified Who can Apply: Should be a legal resident of one of 50 US states or DC. Current UPASNA executive members and their families cannot apply for this scholarship. The criteria for an annual evaluation of recipients shall include: Recipients GPA achieved at the college/university during the academic year. Maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher during their college career. TEXAS NURSERY & LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Texas Nursery & Landscape Foundation Association Education & Research Foundation is now accepting applications for 2017-2018 Scholarship. Students, who are studying programs related to the nursery and landscape industry, please go to the TNLA website, http://www.tnlaonline.org/education--research-foundation1.html and download the 2017-2018 TNLA Education and Research Foundation scholarship application. All scholarship applicants should carefully review the program requirements as explained in the application, and then submit their application, letters of referral, and transcripts to TNLA by the May 1, 2017 deadline. The Foundation Trustees have stressed the importance of having good personal references accompany the scholarship application form. Many times it is the personal references that help the Trustees decide between two deserving students. 10. TEXAS NURSERY & LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP 11. SANKOFA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The Sankofa Foundation is awarding four or more scholarships this year to graduating African American male seniors. Each student will be awarded an individual scholarship in the amount of $500. The scholarship is payable to the student s college or university upon verification of enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college or university. All material is to be postmarked and sent to this address: Scholarship Committee, P. O. Box 743693 Dallas, TX 75374 by April 20, 2017. Awardees will be notified no later than May 6th. Selection Criteria: 1. Scholarships are limited to seniors attending public high schools in the DFW Area. 2. Preference is given to students who have demonstrated exceptional involvement and service to the community and who have greater needs given their socioeconomic background. 3. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must be an African American Male and have a 3.0 grade point average or better on a 4.0 scale. 4. An eligible candidate must be a graduating high school senior. 5. An eligible candidate must be enrolling as a full-time student in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university in the fall semester. Payment will be made directly to that school. 6.
