This position is located in the Housing Code Enforcement section of the Planning & Development Department and is responsible for inspecting residential properties within the City. Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. In addition, this position investigates and resolves complaints and enforces inspection results. The Housing Inspector (Certified) may be assigned to some operational, code and zoning compliance duties on existing commercial properties or may be assigned to assist with rehabilitation projects. The mission of the Housing Code Enforcement is to preserve, improve and maintain the quality and the quantity of Berkeley's residential housing stock by: Promoting compliance with current housing codes Optimizing positive relationships with owners, residents and neighbors Enforcing housing codes, and coordinating with other City programs to provide safe and decent rental housing in Berkeley. The Housing Code Enforcement has three basic components: The Rental Housing Safety Program (RHSP). A program in which owners certify to the City that their rental units meet certain basic safety standards. The City proactively inspects certain units which are randomly selected to ensure that they are in compliance with the City's housing code. The Complaint-Generated Housing Inspection Program. This program involves the inspection of apartment buildings and units on a demand-driven basis. Program staff responds to housing code complaints initiated by Berkeley tenants or by other City programs. The Exterior Elevated Elements Inspection Program (E3). The E3 program required all property owners of residential buildings containing three or more dwelling or sleeping units to hire a licensed professional to inspect and certify that all weather exposed exterior elevated balconies, decks, landings, walkways, stairway systems, guardrails, handrails, or any parts thereof are in a generally safe condition. Typical duties of Housing Inspector (Certified) include: Schedules and conducts inspections and re-inspections of homes, apartment buildings, leased housing, hotels, trailer parks, and unlicensed residential care facilities for compliance with various codes and regulations in response to tenant complaints and/or as part of an ongoing program; Prepares inspection reports, documenting housing conditions and violations, enters information into a computer and forwards reports to property owners; Works with property owners and tenants in the field to discuss violations and needed repairs, facilitate cooperation Employment Opportunities - City of Berkeley Page 2 of 6

The Registered Nurse would work with a multi-disciplinary clinical team that includes psychiatry and clinical case management. This is a temporary, full-time, and benefited position. The current vacancy is located in the Field Nursing Unit of the Public Health Division. Under direction, incumbents provide public health nursing services for the more complex client cases, provide review, and guidance for the work of professional nursing and paraprofessional staff in an assigned area; and may have independent nursing responsibility for a specialized public health activity. The Senior Public Health Nurse is overseen by the Manager of Family Health and Nursing Services/Director of Public Health Nursing. While the primary purpose of this class is the safe transport of passengers, assignments may include the regular pick up and delivery of packaged meals to seniors. Incumbents assist with passenger loading and unloading and are responsible for maintaining routine mileage, inventory and other related records.
