UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA (UTM): Managing Water Environments in Tropical Countries Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is a leading innovationdriven entrepreneurial research university in engineering, science and technology. It is one of the top Public Research Universities in Malaysia. The Managing Water Environments in Tropical Countries is part of UTM s Malaysian Tropical Educational Experience (MyTREE) program and takes place in UTM s Johor Bahru campus in multicultural Iskandar Malaysia. Malaysia is a rojak* of various cultures, races and languages, and it is the perfect destination for anyone who wishes to experience diversity, true cross-cultural communication and to enhance their Asia intelligence! Studying at UTM will give you a multiplicity of new experiences and hopefully lasting friendships made over a short period of time. *Rojak is a traditional Malaysian fruit and vegetable salad dish. The term Rojak is Malay for mixture, and it is commonly used to describe the multi-ethnic, multicultural and multilingual nature of Malaysia! Program Details This course is designed to expose participants to the various aspects of water quality management for river catchments, reservoirs and lakes. It will emphasise key issues in monitoring and assessment of water quality and the impact of water pollution on the environment. The participants will find a wide range of material covered and its quantitative nature through project works will be of benefit to them. At the end of the course, participants should be able to apply knowledge through proper sampling and monitoring methods of river water quality. Participants will also be able to work in a team to plan mitigating and control measures for water pollution. At the end of this summer school, participants will create a visual report eg: a documentary, aiming to create/enhance environmental awareness targeting young Malaysians. Participants should bring with them a laptop, long pants, waterproof camera. Lecture Topics Water management issues in Malaysia and S.E. Program Dates Monday 18 January Friday 5 February 2016 Program Cost USD $1,000 Accommodation Students will stay at the Scholars Inn on UTM Johor Bahru main campus. Each apartment has accommodates three people. Travel Grants Applications will be on a competitive basis and ranked on the merit of the application statement. Grants of up to $1,000 will be available. OS-HELP Loan Extra financial support can be gained by applying for an OS-Help loan if applicable. This program must be for academic credit. Included in Program Cost Tuition and study material Airport pick up Two-weeks accommodation Field visits Local transport Travel and medical insurance through UTS Travel Insurance Policy Not Included in Program Cost International airfares from Sydney to Johor Visa application costs Daily meals and drinks Personal expenses and spending money

Who can apply This fantastic trip is open to students: A keen interest in Malaysian culture and a background in either engineering or science A minimum GPA requirement for acceptance is 1.50. An easy going, flexible and independent character with a willingness to take initiative to learn. Willingness to work hard and adapt to different surroundings and work environments Strong team working skills Requirements If you are selected you must: Attend a pre departure session Represent UTS with distinction at all times during the program Submit at least two blog posts during the program to UTS to be used on the UTS:BUiLD Abroad Blog Submit a reflection piece to BUiLD on your return Complete a feedback survey on your return Academic Credit Students successfully completing the PSB Paris School of Business short term program may be eligible for academic credit towards their UTS course; 6CP electives only. To receive academic credit, you must submit a concurrent study form to your Faculty Student Centre and have it approved before being participating in this program.
