Applications due March 30, 2018!! 2018 Application for Strides for Stroke Bursary Awards Mackenzie Health is the District Stroke Centre for York Region as part of the Ontario Stroke System and was awarded with Accreditation Canada s Stroke Services Distinction in 2013 and 2015. As we are also the only designated stroke centre in the Central LHIN, we are responsible for advancing stroke care and clinical best practices across a large geographic area. Richview Manor Strides for Stroke This year marks the 13 th year that Mackenzie Health Foundation has organized and operated the Richview Manor Strides for Stroke 5km Run/Walk. This event has raised significant funds to support and increase the activities of stroke care at Mackenzie Health. Strides for Stroke Bursaries will be awarded to interprofessional team members to allow them to attend a conference or course where the focus is on best practices across the continuum of stroke care. There are $2,600 worth of bursaries to be awarded! Eligibility Strides for Stroke Bursary Awards The Strides for Stroke Bursaries are designed to support the Mackenzie Health District Stoke Centre s mission to advance stroke care and clinical best practices. In order to be eligible for this award, applicants must have been working part time or full time at Mackenzie Health for a minimum of 1 year (1950 hours) prior to applying for the bursary. The funds may be used for tuition fees in an academic program or conference/course fees in the upcoming 12 months. Travel expenses related to attending the conference/course may be covered in part. Successful applicants are eligible to receive a Strides for Stroke Bursary only once. Selection Criteria All applicants for the Strides for Stroke Bursaries will be reviewed and selected based on the following criteria: o The applicant is a health care professional employed by Mackenzie health who has worked part time or full time for a minimum of one year 1 point; o Manager Endorsement 1 point; o Demonstrated commitment to professional activities, for example: Mackenzie Health committee membership 1 point; o Attendance at previous stroke related education 1 point; o The program/conference/course focuses on enhancing care for patients at risk of stroke or for patients with stroke 2 points possible; o Award winners commit to sharing the learning with colleagues at Mackenzie Health 2 points possible. Presentation of the awards to successful candidates will occur during the awards ceremony of Nursing Week, May 7-11, 2018.
