I will see that s/he has the necessary equipment and uniforms to meet the requirements for the course. I understand that youth staff will be asked to help run additional recruitment events. Dates may be announced at the first staff development so youth can attend if possible. You must be able to make ALL the course dates, no exception. Any absence must be approved by the Senior Patrol Leader and the Scoutmaster IN ADVANCE of you being accepted as a staff member. You may be released from staff if you miss staff developments or parts of staff developments without advance consent from both the Senior Patrol Leader and the Scoutmaster. Staff Costs: All on-course meals are paid for by the Council. Staff are suggested to purchase a staff jacket at the cost of approximately $40.00. You may bring a check to the Assistant Scoutmaster of Administration during your first or second Staff Development meeting. NYLT Youth Staff Responsibilities (Keep for your records) Will understand and model servant leadership; other s first attitude, Scout Oath and Law while on course and during staff developments at all times Read the entire NYLT Syllabus prior to course and be familiar with it Be prompt in communications with adults and youth staff via e-mail and phone calls - within 24 hours Copy an adult staff member on all conversations with another adult for two deep leadership Will model the core learning and leadership messages of NYLT through their interactions with youth and adults on course. i.e. EAR, ROPE, Teaching EDGE, etc. Actively participate in recruiting participants for course by attending various district s events to promote NYLT (You may be asked to go to another district s events) Prepare an elevator speech (quick 2 minute speech about what NYLT can do for participants and leaders for recruiting) Recruit for NYLT through one on one interaction with youth in OA, Patrol, Team, Crew, at University of Scouting, and various other venues and means that the NYLT SPL and Scoutmaster decide Will obtain a certificate for Trainer s EDGE Training (Good for 5 years) Will be Venturing Youth Protection trained (Will do this at one of the first staff developments) and registered as a youth with the BSA Will use and understand the patrol method to facilitate NYLT course objectives Will attend and assist with NYLT youth staff recruiting events if asked Provide a current BSA Medical Form, parts A,B, C to the registrar by the Shakedown Attend every staff development unless Senior Patrol Leader and the Scoutmaster approves absence prior to acceptance as staff member for the course. Will prepare quality presentations according to guidelines and practice them at home to be prepared for staff developments and deadlines given by an ASPL of Troop Guides Change presentations according to notes given at staff developments by the next staff development and reprint pages that need to be changed. Know the requirements of each staff development meeting, Shakedown, and Go-Live Weekends by reading e-mails and NYLT program book Complete BSA Activity consent form and provide to the registrar the first day of staff development Write a vision statement for your role and goals to fulfill that vision Have a good work ethic (Play when it s time to play and work when it s time to work) Be enthusiastic Be flexible (schedules don t always go as planned or our patrols don t respond as we think they will) Be a team player (unity and a the goal of a performing team are more important than own personal preferences) Growth mindset (look at problems as challenges to grow and overcome) Be able to keep a 6:00 AM - Midnight schedule if needed on course and still be cheerful and energetic Positive attitude Be on time for staff development meetings, Shakedown, and Go-Live Weekends. Mentor Patrols to do the same during Go-Live Weekends Submit presentations to ASPLs of Program and Troop Guides for review promptly when asked Willingly sing songs and lead chants

Senior Patrol Leader s Additional Responsibilities Run troop meetings, events, and activities Chair meetings of the senior staff Delegate duties and responsibilities to other members of the NYLT youth staff Assist the Scoutmaster with staff training Model the core learning and leadership messages of the NYLT syllabus Being well-versed on all core content sessions Prepare troop presentation if assigned and/or understand your role during each troop presentation Keep everyone informed in a timely manner Reports to the Scoutmaster Assistant Senior Patrol Leader s Additional Responsibilities Provide mentorship and coaching to each day s program/service patrol Overseeing the preparation of campfires and model campsites Support the NYLT presenters with preparations for sessions, meetings, and activities, and ensuring they are prepared Model the core learning and leadership messages of the NYLT syllabus Complete other assignments as determined by the SPL Prepare troop presentation if assigned and/or understand your role during each troop presentation. Reports to an Assistant Scoutmaster Quartermaster s Additional Responsibilities Provide mentorship and coaching to each day s service patrol Work with the ASPL of Program to ensure each scheduled event is prepared Work with the ASPL of Program to secure all needed materials and equipment for the course Prepare troop presentation if assigned and/or understand your role during each troop presentation. Reports to an Assistant Scoutmaster Scribe s Additional Responsibilities Work with the Course Photographer to prepare a course newsletter Serve as Course Historian Prepare troop presentation if assigned and/or understand your role during each troop presentation. Troop Guide s Additional Responsibilities Prepare four tabletop presentations according to the deadlines given by the ASPL of Troop Guides keeping in mind content first and then visual interest and design Check all patrol presentations, campfire skits, flag designs, etc. for appropriateness Prepare troop presentation if assigned and/or understand your role during each troop presentation. You will help facilitate the games and activities Know NYLT Skills, how to: make a survival rope belt, knots for pioneering projects, GPS Geo- caching skills, patrol behavior management, teaching skills, Leave No Trace, camp set-up etc. Communicate any needs (behavioral problems, lack of equipment, etc.) to the ASPL of Troop Guides Be a mentor to patrol and facilitate the Patrol leader s success by knowing which stage of team development the patrol is in and coach him on using the EDGE method to move his team along the phases of team development toward performing Reports to the ASPL of Troop Guides
