FONDATION DE LA PLACE DES ARTS Our mission is to make arts and culture more accessible by supporting awareness, educational and creative projects initiated by Place des Arts. Alexandre Carlos, IsaBelle Paquette and Cai Glover, dance (Cas Public company, whose choreographer, Hélène Blackburn, benefited from the Residences and Co-productions program for the creation of her show Suites Curieuses in 2015) THE ACCESS-TO-THE-PERFORMING-ARTS PROGRAM was created in 2002 to raise public awareness of the diversity of the performing arts. Numerous free artistic activities are offered all year long, and support is provided to artists, helping them develop and present new works at Place des Arts. The Program, which is funded by the Fondation, falls into four components. THE FAMILY/YOUTH PROGRAM offers free or affordably priced activities and shows for younger audiences. Each year, close to 5,000 children attend the fifteen shows presented as part of the Place des Arts Junior series, in which theatre, music, dance, and circus arts are combined with participatory awareness-building activities. In addition, La relâche à la Place des Arts features free activities for families during the school break. THE CULTURAL ANIMATION PROGRAM aims to raise public awareness of the performing arts be they living, visual, or digital. Each year, some forty projects, presented in about a hundred free activities, are featured in the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, in the exhibition room, and on the screen mosaic. Over 250 artists take part in these shows, activities, and discussions, reaching tens of thousands of people. THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM is designed for high-school students from underprivileged areas. It focuses on the artistic experience and allows young people to have a real commitment to the arts. Through a series of workshops held in class and at Place des Arts, students develop skills and key competencies for academic success. The program has been extremely popular since it was created, and in 2017-2018, some 2,400 students and 59 teachers from 25 schools in Greater Montreal are taking part in it. THE RESIDENCIES AND CO-PRODUCTIONS PROGRAM supports about ten artists each year as they work through their research, experimentation, and creative processes. Several of the works created today have an international reach with presentations taking place in several countries. In 2017-2018, three works received financial support: Temporel, by Lemieux Pilon 4D Art and Les 7 doigts; Espièglerie, by circus artist Jamie Adkins; and Ceci tuera cela/this Will Kill That, by Swedish artist Gunilla Heilborn. 7
