A GUIDE TO YOUR STAY AT BECKY S HOUSE The science of medicine. The compassion to heal.

In Becky s Memory On February 4, 1994, Rebecca Sloan Tyrrell passed away after a courageous and inspirational struggle against cancer. During her illness, Becky vowed that she would help those afflicted with the same disease. The Rebecca Sloan Tyrrell Mercy Lodge, also known as Becky s House, was opened on June 5, 1998. We offer this home-away-from-home in Becky s memory to recognize her inspiring kindness and devotion to those who are suffering and find themselves in stressful circumstances. Becky s House is supported by generous contributions and donations from the community and guests of Becky s House.

Welcome to Becky s House Becky s House is our means of extending hospitality to those who come from a distance to be treated at St. Peter s Hospital and St. Peter s Health Care Services. By providing a welcoming and comfortable environment to patients and families, we hope to enhance the unique impact that loving families can have on improving patient outcomes. 1

For Our Guests Please note the following guidelines to ensure a comfortable stay for you and your fellow guests. Treat Becky s House as if it were your own home in a residential neighborhood. Quiet hours are between 10 pm and 7 am. Consideration for fellow guests and neighbors is very important. Keeping Becky s House tidy is everyone s responsibility. Your Bedroom Sheets must be used on all beds. Clean towels may be found in the hall linen closet. You are responsible for keeping your room neat during your stay. Before leaving, change your sheets and empty the trash. If possible, wash and dry your sheets and towels. Otherwise, place soiled sheets, pillow cases and towels in the laundry hamper in the main bathroom. Guests are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room and all common areas. For health reasons, dishes must be washed in the dishwasher only (not by hand). Refrigerator You may use the refrigerator to store food. We ask that you label each item with your name and the date it was opened or purchased (markers and stickers are available in the kitchen.) Upon departure, discard any food that cannot be used by others. 2

For Our Guests Bathrooms Bathrooms are shared facilities. Cleaning supplies are available in each bathroom and in the utility closet to maintain cleanliness. Laundry facilities The washer, laundry detergent and dryer are available for use in the basement. Cleaning supplies Materials for cleaning, such as dusters, mops, a vacuum cleaner, disposable gloves and small trash can liners may be found in the utility closet in the hallway. Eating and Drinking Eat in the kitchen and dining room only. Do not take food or beverages into the bedrooms or other common areas. Facilities For security purposes, keep your room locked at all times. It is recommended that you refrain from leaving valuables or money in the house. We are not responsible for lost items. Be sure that all exterior doors are closed securely when you enter and exit the house. Report any breakage or malfunctioning equipment to the staff. We would like to ensure everything is in working order and keep everyone safe and sound. Help us conserve energy. We would appreciate it if you would turn off the lights, TV and radio when they are not in use. The use of alcohol, illegal drugs and tobacco products is not permitted. Weapons, pets and removal of property are prohibited. Becky s House is supported by generous contributions and donations from the community and our guests. 3

For Our Guests Length of Stay Length of stay at Becky s House is generally from one to three days. Exceptions to this normal period will be based on individual circumstances. Phone Calls Telephones are provided for your convenience for local calls. Please use a phone card or credit card or reverse the charges for any long distance calls. If you expect incoming phone calls from family or friends, remember to provide them with your room number and the phone number at Becky s House. In respect for fellow guests, please limit the length of your phone calls. Emergencies In case of a life-threatening emergency such as a fire or medical emergency, call 911. For house emergencies, when staff is not available, call 525-1522. Parking Parking is available to guests in the St. Peter s Hospital employee parking lot. An access card will be provided at registration for use during your stay. The driveway of Becky s House may be used only for unloading guests vehicles. Do not park on the street in front of the house. Special arrangements may be made for handicapped guests. Becky s House is our means of extending hospitality to those who come from a distance to be treated at St. Peter s Hospital and St. Peter s Health Care Services. By providing a welcoming and comfortable environment to patients and families, we hope to enhance the unique impact that loving families can have on improving patient outcomes. 4

Check Out Strip the bed and remake it with fresh sheets and pillowcases from the hall closet. If possible, wash and dry soiled sheets and towels. Otherwise, place soiled linens in the laundry hamper in the main bathroom. Please dust and vacuum your room, leaving it in good order. Remember to remove your food from the kitchen or put a new label on it, HOUSE, so that others will know they may use it. Check that you have all of your personal belongings. Empty the wastebaskets in the trash receptacle on the west side of the house. Check out time is before 1 pm. Try to check out with the staff member between 9 am and noon. Leave the key, parking lot card and comment card in the slot left of the desk in the living room. 5
