Great Lakes Service Council THE 2013 LAPEER LOCK-IN Brought to you by The Pontiac-Manito District and Troop 366 For: Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Webelos When: Saturday, March 2 nd to Sunday, March 3 rd, 2013. Doors open at 8:30pm, and all Troops and Crews are invited to start arriving at that time, and stay through Sunday until 5:00 am. The Community Center will close at 5:30 am, so everyone must be out at that time. Events: Open basketball, volleyball, walleyball, and raquetball. Open swimming will be available at different times throughout the night. There is a large pool with waterpark-style features. Many different types of board and card games will be played, depending upon what individual scouts bring. Units may compete in various organized contests for points. The unit that ends the night with the most points will win the coveted Lapeer Lock-In Duct Tape Trophy-Thingy for one year. Runners-up will win lesser prizes. Specific events are subject to change, but will likely include 3-on-3 Basketball, Volleyball, Euchre Tournament, Chess, Human Wheelbarrow Race, Lashing Contest, and Ping- Pong. Sign-ups for these events will be held immediately after the Opening Ceremonies. Where: The City of Lapeer Community Center 880 S. Saginaw Street, Lapeer, MI 48446 Registration: The cost is $20.00 per person (scouts and adults) Register online at michiganscouting.org, under Great Lakes FSC 1) Online registration and payment will open on February 1 st and remain available until Tuesday night, February 26 th, 2013 or until 250 attendees have registered whichever occurs first. Early registration is highly recommended. No unregistered walk-ins will be admitted at the event. 2) Boy Scout troops may be asked to help with supervision, and should register enough adults to keep at least one in their assigned zone at all times throughout the night. A minimum of 3 adults per troop is recommended, to allow adults to have some personal time to enjoy the event, or sleep. Assisting troops will be contacted about their assigned zones prior to the event. Packs and crews are exempt. 1

Also; please read attached Safety Rules, which were provided by the Lapeer Community Center. Boy Scouts and Venturers should wear their uniforms during the opening ceremony. Webelos: First and second year Webelos are invited to participate but must be accompanied all night by a parent. Provided By Your Registration Fees: - Site rental - Program supplies for activities - Pizza and drinks for all scouts and leaders - Coffee for leaders throughout the night Food & Treats: We will be serving drinks & coffee throughout the night. At midnight we will serve pizza and drinks for everyone. For additional options, there are on-site vending machines, and also the Order of the Arrow ( OA ) will be selling other drinks. In order to ensure adequate seating for eating pizza, the dining room tables will be cleared of all persons and personal items at around 11:30pm. At 1:00am they may return. Personal items such as coats, backpacks, etc. should not be stored in the dining room, but instead in the designated area upstairs. The street address of the City of Lapeer Community Center is 880 S. Saginaw Street, in Lapeer. (Note: when outside of Lapeer city limits, this street is known as County Highway 50.) 3
SAFETY RULES for 2013 Lapeer Lock-in 1) All scouts and leaders must act in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law at all times. 2) All rules in the Guide to Safe Scouting must be followed at all times. 3) Scouts must use the buddy system at all times. 4) Unit leaders must administer all medications to their scouts. 5) All injuries must be reported to the health officer, so he/she may log them in the records. 6) The health officer must be notified of all serious injuries and illnesses IMMEDIATELY. Minor injuries may be handled by the unit and reported later. 7) The health officer must be made aware of any Scout or adult with a medical condition that may need treatment. This will allow the health officer to have an idea of any potential medical emergencies. This information will be kept strictly confidential and will be provided to the EMS, only if an emergency shall arise. See the attached medical information sheet (to be brought with the unit and turned in at the time of check-in). 8) Use of offensive language is prohibited. 9) Possession of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited. Violations of this rule will be dealt with severely. 10) Each unit must maintain 2-deep leadership in the building at all times, and maintain at least one adult in their assigned supervision zone at all times other than opening & closing ceremonies. 11) No smoking areas are available inside the center. 12) Food must stay in the cafeteria area. 13) Use of cameras (including cell phones) is prohibited in restrooms and locker rooms. 14) Only youth will be permitted into the Men s and Women s locker rooms. Adults should use the Family locker rooms. Youth are not to enter the Family locker room. This also applies to Webelos and their parents. 4
