There are a lot of great things happening in and around our Lodge. I especially want to thank the PER s for their continual work at raising funds for the many good deeds that they do. At the Farm Event on July 17th, they presented two $500 Scholarships to Olivia Meadows and Kaci Wright, grandchildren of several of our members. Your support of the Steak Dinners and Raffles has helped make this possible for them to do. We have many upcoming events, both at the Club and Farm. Please come join the fun! Hope to see you there. Bob Allison PER, Exalted Ruler A Message from the Leading Knight I hope everyone is enjoying their summer I know I have been! As the Leading Knight, one of the things that I am in charge of is the annual Family Picnic, which will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010. We will begin activities at 2:00, and eat around 5:00. I am in need of anyone who has ideas, or that wishes to help out. You can contact me ASAP; at 657-5696. I am having a meeting on August 12th to finalize everything that will be happening that day. We are in need of cakes, cookies, brownies, etc., for the cake walk. If you can donate, please contact Jean Evenden at 339-5740, or let me know. Or you can just bring them the day of the picnic. We plan to have a lot of fun activities, so please mark your calendars for Saturday, August 28th. Hope to see you there. Sara Dunavent PER, Leading Knight A Message from the Lecturing Knight I am currently working with a committee to get our By-Laws and House Rules current and up-to-date for the Grand Lodge. We have been busy reviewing the past submitted changes, and discussions have been very good. As soon as everything is done,we will be mailing the changes to you, so you can see what, if any, changes we will need to vote on. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the Club. Dan Szklany Lecturing Knight ADVERTISING FOR 2010-2011 A THANK YOU to all who advertised in the newsletter this past year. Because of your advertising, we were able to help offset the cost of the printing and mailing, and get the news to you every other month, instead of 4 times a year. If you are interested in advertising in this newsletter, please contact Sally Dunavent at 339-2136 or emai at: mysadiecat01@yahoo.com The ads will run concurrent with the Lodge year. Cost of an ad is $100, and must be received before the ad can run. There s still time to get your ad in our next newsletter to be printed the beginning of May, to get out to our members by June 1st.

A Message from the Secretary From the Elks National Foundation Letter of June 2010: There are four different ways that your Lodge can obtain ENF funding for your charitable activities. GRATITUDE GRANTS: Once a Lodge meets the GER s $4.50 per-capita goal for giving to the Foundation, they become eligible for a Gratitude Grant. Gratitude Grants provide up to $1000.00 to Lodges for any charitable activity or donation in their local community. PROMISE GRANTS: All Lodges are eligibleto apply for a Promise Grant which providea up to $1000 to the first 300 Lodges that pledge to build the character and competence of local youth by hosting a youth event. Why not think about hosting a 25th Anniversary Red Ribbon Celebration? We ve included a Promise Grant Pledge Form and Red Ribbon Week cards for your convenience.(available from our Secretary) Hurry, grants will go fast this year! IMPACT GRANTS: provide Lodges with up to $10,000 to make a significant difference in their community. Applications available at www.elks.org/enf/community/impactgrants.cfm. They must be postmarked by the Aug. 31, 2010, deadline. LOCAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS: Companies who would like to make a monetary donation to a local Lodge, but can only donate to 501(c)3 organizations, can make a donation to the Lodge through the Foundation, taking advantage of our charitable status. If any of these things interest you, or if you have any questions, contact John Vetter, ENF Chm. (778-1184) or Tom Hawkins, Secretary (335-7805) Tom Hawkins PER, Secretary A Message from the Trustees We are off and running this year. More info will be coming on what and how that will be working for us. BEERS We are also trying some different beers and bottled beverages out, as well as some new lunch/dinner items. Let us know what you think. THURSDAY LUNCH Check out the Thursday lunch specials, as well. $5.00 gets you a nice lunch and your first soda/tea. KITCHEN HELP WANTED If anyone is interested in helping out in the kitchen in an as needed basis, please let us know. We are looking for all areas of help-waitresses, fryers, cooks, dishwashers. No one is being replaced, but there are occasions when our workers fall ill, or just need some time off. If you are willing to help, or be put on a call list, please let Don Hiser, Larry Baugher, or Sally Dunavent know. We will add you to the list. We are still trying to do the Guest Chef nights.
