Welcome from Pastor Ron 5 Next Steps 6 New Here? Story of Lasting Change 8 Kids & Students 14 Groups 18 Serve 28 Here. There. Everywhere. Fall Schedule 32 2 3

Goodbye summer; hello fall! It s been a great season of relaxing and recharging, but now it s time to put all that extra energy into motion and kick it into high gear. At the start of this new ministry year, we want you to get connected at Highpoint. With three growing campuses, we have a wide variety of groups and serving opportunities to meet you and your family in your age and stage of life. If you re new to Highpoint, welcome! We are all about helping you believe, belong and become more like Jesus. Each ministry at our church is designed meet you where you re at and take you into deeper, genuine community with one another whether you re a child, junior higher, high schooler or adult. So grab a pumpkin spice latte, pull up a chair and dive into all the opportunities we have for you to reach a new high point in your faith. I m personally excited about what God has in store for us this fall and look forward to growing with you! In His Strength, Pastor Ron Zappia Lead Pastor 5

//next steps THREE STEPS TO MAKE HIGHPOINT YOUR CHURCH HOME. STEP 1 Meet We want to meet you! Get to know your campus pastor, staff and others who are new at a casual meet-and-greet. Step 1 normally happens the first weekend of the month directly following each service at all campuses. STEP 2 Connect Connect to the core of our church by taking a closer look at who we are, what we re passionate about and what it means to believe in, belong to and become more like Jesus. This 90-minute study normally takes place the second weekend of the month before or after services at each campus. STEP 3 Commit In this final step, you ll commit to making this your church home by becoming a member, joining a group and finding a place to serve. This step normally takes place the fourth weekend of the month at each campus. 6

adventure. I was basically telling God what being a missionary would look like for me, and wasn t ready to let go and say, Ok, we ll trust you God. STORY OF LASTING CHANGE THE JOHNSONS In every sense of the word, I m not cut out to be a missionary: I m not a theologian; I m not a teacher; I m not a medical doctor. I ve discounted myself as we often do but when I was talking to a missionary, I learned about their need for a graphic designer to help make children s books in Chad. That was the first time I really felt the Lord tugging on my heart and thought, I can do this. -Robert Johnson Because Robert didn t fit into the stereotypical molds he felt missionaries often fall in, he shared, I ve discounted myself---as we often do--but when I was talking to a missionary, I learned about their need for a graphic designer to help make children s books in Chad. That was the first time I really felt the Lord tugging on my heart and thought, I can do this. Cheyenne shares with a big smile, I always wanted to be a missionary. In 2014, the Johnsons had traveled to Chad for a month on a shortterm missions trip, and when it concluded they continued feeling the Lord leading them back to Chad. But, Cheyenne needed a more defined role and ministry when they returned in the future sharing, It was one thing to be in a foreign country for a month, homeschooling the kids; it s another thing to be there an entire year, with no specific role to play. Robert and his wife, Cheyenne Johnson, are your average Midwestern family living in suburbia with a charming historic house, three adorable children, Shiloh (13), Huck (9) and Weslee (4), and good jobs that pay the bills. But while the Johnsons look like your average family, they are planning to take a continent-sized leap of faith that will land them--three kids and all--across the ocean for 10 to 12 months in a country that couldn t be more different than Illinois: Chad, Africa. While there, the Johnsons will be helping the Chadians through a literacy program in their native Dazaga language, with the ultimate goal of sharing the gospel through relationship. 8 Years before taking the leap into the unknown of preparing for this long-term missions trip to Chad, Robert, a talented graphic designer, traveled the world with a non-profit Christian organization to capture the stories of missionaries. He had often thought that this is the role God wants him to play...capturing the stories of other missionary families. Robert recalls, We were successfully living in both worlds, with one foot in the comforts of Illinois and the other craving

Fast forward to March 2017, nearly three years after their first trip to Chad, Cheyenne saw a posting on social media for a kindergarten teacher for missionary kids in Chad. Similar to Robert s first ahha moment, Cheyenne thought, I can do this. Little by little God kept meeting the Johnsons with each step they took to explore the possibility of moving to Chad long-term, but that wasn t met without fears and challenges. Robert expresses, I m not that big of a futurist, but all of a sudden I got really concerned about security. GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU (MATTHEW 28: 19-20). But then God started meeting them one provision at a time and began confirming for the Johnsons that this was in fact what we was calling them to: it began with the teaching position Cheyenne found, then they found out their fundraising goal was $20,000 less than they had initially thought, then their house sold within a week and the list goes on! Robert and Cheyenne passionately believe that God used individuals in the community at Highpoint to provide encouragement and prayer throughout this journey of faith, and to also provide financial support for their ministry in Chad. From the people in Young Family Group they ve experienced life and parenthood with, to the worship team Robert serves with on the weekends, to the integral and supportive role JHM played in helping their teenage daughter, Shiloh, embrace this step of faith and the idea of leaving friends behind God used and is still using Highpoint to minister to the Johnsons in a big way! Now as they relocate to Chad this September, they ask that their Highpoint church family pray that [they] would be fully engaged in the culture rather than withdrawing from it, for safety and good health, for [Robert and Cheyenne s] marriage to stay strong as [they] minister in a Muslim culture and for the kids adjustment and struggle with loneliness. The Johnsons didn t land on this life-changing path overnight; it was a series of small obedient steps each family member had to take that brought them to the point of decision to move to Chad. But God met them along the way and will continue meeting their needs. What an incredible testament to the small voice God uses to tug at our hearts in a huge way to help fulfill His Commission to go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you (Matthew 28: 19-20).
