Cleanliness Champions Programme Version 3 Elaine Boyd Practice Education Co-ordinator (HAI) NHS Grampian Champions Challenged Event 2012 13 th June 2012

AIMS Provide update on Cleanliness Champions Programme Key changes to the programme content Continuing the Cleanliness Champions role

Background September 2003 Cleanliness Champions Programme launched HAI Taskforce (now National Policy Group) HAI costs NHS Scotland 186 million/year, 10% patients Available to a wide range of healthcare staff NHS & Non-NHS settings Reviewed and re-launched November 2007 (Version 2) 14,800 + Cleanliness Champions to date excluding undergraduate programmes Undergraduate programmes include Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Reviewed and re-launched April 2012 (Version 3)

Aim of the Programme To prepare Cleanliness Champions to promote and maintain a healthcare culture where patient safety related to infection prevention and control is of the highest importance. 2 Key Themes:- Promoting safe practice Ensuring a safe patient environment

Why review the programme again? Version 2 content out-dated SICPs were recently updated by Health Protection Scotland Several customised versions existed unsustainable for small NES team need to streamline services made quality assurance difficult

Undergraduate Students CCP Management Group Review Process Folder of Evidence of Learning Analysis CCP Editorial Review Group Student Feedback Analysis

Student Feedback Too long Too much reflection Would like self-test questions Some of the content is/looks out of date Repetitive Programme is disjointed, constant moving between units and FEL Questions are difficult to understand and vague Learning outcomes and activities are not always matched Some web-links do not work

What has changed? - Content More concise 9 units instead of 10 Only ONE content version additional information for specific staff groups is available on icon click New Check Your Learning section at the end of each unit Unit 2 now covers the complete Chain of Infection Unit 3 (Hand Hygiene) is now only one unit Unit 8 now covers Occupational Health and Food Hygiene The programme now contains information about and aligns to the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety agendas The content part and the Folder of Evidence are now strictly separate

What has changed? Online Change of IT provider: Online version now hosted on learnpro learnpro NHS Boards learnpro Community Students (HEIs and FEIs) Non NHS Healthcare workers Online Folder of Evidence of Learning now an editable PDF file. (3 versions: Standard, Dental, Medical) Folder of Evidence of Learning activities separate from the content Clearer guidance for students and mentors
