TORCH Goals 1. 50% of NSBE Chapters incorporating TORCH Chair position 2. 50 Region IV Chapters participating in AWFE 3. Monthly reports and TORCH hours submitted in a timely manner 4. Submitting applications for both TORCH grants and Chapter Relief for TORCH events if needed 5. Increasing communication amongst Regional leaders 6....positively impact the community. A Walk For Education to increase awareness of the opportunities available through education particularly in the STEM fields and to shatter myths about African-Americans in math, science, engineering and other technologies. NSBE students and leaders go door-to-door in underserved community to promote the importance of STEM. Business Plan Competition Build a Successful Team: Develop a small team in your chapter Appoint a member to be President of the venture Perform Interactive Activity to Develop Skills Submit Executive Summaries PLAN EARLY! The best teams should communicate the following: Clear explanation of their product/service and the problem it solves How their company is unique and differentiated Sizeable market opportunity and ability to penetrate the intended market Current development stage Viable business model Clear measures of success and potential exit opportunities Understanding of how much money is needed and how it will be used 26 NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 26

NSBE Debaters NSBE Debaters will operate using the parliamentary debate format focuses on oratorical and analytical skills Reach Out to the Debate Team s Director for a Debate seminar to gauge member interest Debate Structure The Government proposes a specific case statement The Opposition must demonstrate that the case statement is not correct Speaker will determine most convincing team at end of round 29 NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 29

Shadow Initiative Program - Overview Designed to develop young members of Region IV into better leaders of tomorrow starting today. Provide resources to help NSBE members thrive as leaders no matter amount of experience NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 34

Shadow Initiative Program - Goals 1. Expose members to practical leadership lessons through monthly seminars hosted by NSBE Leaders. 1. Have members be able to apply learned leadership lessons into real NSBE situations in multiple levels 1. Have members more prepared for leadership positions inside and outside of NSBE 1. Create connections with NSBE leaders on regional, national, and professional level NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 35

Shadow Initiative Program - Facets of Program Webinars Monthly live video & audio sessions that will teach participants key leadership lessons. Webinars will be conducted by the RLC Chair and accompanied by an REB Adviser, Professional Member. These members provide participants with different perspectives to help the messages seem more applicable in daily life. Monthly Interactions Monthly one on one conversations with participants and RLC Chair that allow for individual focus on the participant's needs and growth. Sessions will allow for the RLC Chair to understand what the participant is interested in or help find a fit for leadership within NSBE. Creating Solutions Semester long project that allows participants to understand the issues the REB face while applying skills learned to get solutions to zone specific issues.
