Dear Parishioners, This Sunday we celebrate Mother s Day. We thank God for the gift of a mother s love. The embrace of her love refreshes, nourishes and heals. May is also a month that is dedicated to Mary. God knew that in the spiritual family we need the love of a mother. She was given to us as the gift of her Son from the cross. Jesus said to John, behold your mother and to Mary, behold your Son. She is the new Eve, who said yes to God s invitation to be the mother of God. She is our advocate, intercessor and protects us under her mantle from the evil one. We celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Fatima on Saturday, May 13. This is the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions when 3 children saw a woman brighter than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal goblet filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun. There were six apparitions between May 13 and October 13. She asked them to pray the rosary daily and to pray for sinners and offer sacrifices as many souls perish in hell because nobody is praying or making sacrifices for them. This message is appropriate for us to heed today. How many people are in sin and not repenting and are heading on the road to eternal perdition? During the Easter season, we bring to mind that Jesus died to save us but we need to receive the gift of salvation by turning away from sin and being faithful to the Gospel. From Fatima came the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a way to save souls and bring peace to the world. There are prayers that are attributed to Our Lady of Fatima. After the Glory Be in the recitation of the rosary, we pray, Oh My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy. And this is the Angel Prayer from the vision of an angel at Fatima. O most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary I beg the conversion of poor sinners. Many do not know the story of Fatima. I strongly suggest that you read about the events and the messages. You are encouraged to pray the rosary, make the five first Saturdays, and offer sacrifices for sinners. You may also wish to consider attending daily Mass. As I mentioned last week, we have reached our assessment of the Catholic Appeal. We are assessed $63,601 and collected $68,860. I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2

As a romantic gesture, couples would etch their initials onto a lock, attach it to the railing, click it shut, and throw the key into the River Seine. After this ritual was repeated thousands of times, the bridge could no longer bear the weight of so much love. Eventually the city, fearing for the integrity of the bridge, removed the love locks. The locks were meant to symbolize everlasting love, but human love does not always last. The closest of friends may offend each other and never resolve their differences. Family members may argue and refuse to forgive. A husband and wife may drift so far apart that they can t remember why they once decided to marry. Human love can be fickle. But there is one constant and enduring love the love of God. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever, proclaims Psalm 106:1. The promises of the unfailing and everlasting nature of God s love are found throughout Scripture. And the greatest proof of this love is the death of His Son so that those who put their faith in Him can live eternally. And nothing will ever separate us from His love (Rom. 8:38 39). Fellow believers, we are locked into God s love forever. ~Cindy Hess Kasper ~ Cindy Hess Kasper. Our Daily Bread, 2016 by Our Daily Bread Ministries, Grand Rapids, MI. Reprinted by permission. My Friend, the Saint Mother Teresa Susan Conroy, Author /EWTN Host Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7PM St. Joseph Church, Wakefield Susan Conroy made her first trip to Calcutta to work with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity in 1986. In 1987, at the request of Mother Teresa herself, Susan stayed in the Order's convent in the South Bronx, New York, in contemplation of the religious life. During that visit, a time she calls "the most profoundly meaningful experience of my life, " Susan came to know Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, "the greatest saint of modern times," who has had as great an impact on Susan's life as has Mother Teresa. Susan did not enter the Order, but in 1991, during Lent, she once again returned to Calcutta to work with the Sisters among the dying destitutes. She and Mother Teresa kept in touch until Mother's death in 1997. Before being called Home to God, Mother Teresa gave Susan permission to write a book about her experiences. Susan has made numerous personal and television appearances for local as well as worldwide audiences.
