Nurses are expected to gather in teams from their hospitals for the afternoon session, small groups of less than six will be combined with another small group. Biodata: Dr. Owen received his medical education at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales. He graduated in 1967 and after internship he undertook research training in experimental pathology at the University of Oslo in Norway. He returned to England in 1969 for residency and fellowship training in Anatomical Pathology at St. Thomas Hospital Medical School in London. In 1976 he immigrated to Canada where he spent four years at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg before moving to Vancouver in 1980. He is now Consultant Pathologist at Vancouver General Hospital and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Owen s major interest is in pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas. He has authored or co-authored more than 140 articles in refereed scientific journals, contributed chapters to over ten textbooks and co-authored three textbooks. He has been Visiting Professor at universities in Hong Kong, Peoples Republic of China, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He has been an invited speaker at the US Canadian Academy of Pathology, the International Academy of Pathology, and ASCP annual meetings. Dr Fergal Donnellan Topic: Abdominal Pressure and Bowel Looping Biodata: Dr. Fergal Donnellan a Gastroenterologist at Vancouver General Hospital. Topic: Inflammatory Bowel Disease Biodata: I am a gastroenterologist currently working at the Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, BC. I have a general GI practice with a strong focus of IBD and HCV. I graduated from UBC in internal medicine and completed my GI fellowship in Edmonton. I am a clinical instructor with UBC in the division of gastroenterology. My better half is Jody and we have two small children, Cooper who is 4 and Portia who is 2. Topic: Infection Control a Pathway to Safety: Endoscopy Biodata: Portia has been with ConMed since 2009, managing VCH, FHA, PHSA, PHC, and VIHA. She specializes in both the Endoscopy Suite and OR. After graduating from UBC with a Bachelor in Science, Portia moved quickly into a sales role working previously in the Stem Cell Biotech industry. Changing to the Medical Device field has allowed her to work in a more clinical and patient care setting, which Portia finds very gratifying because she can see the direct results of the products which she supports. Emergency Endoscopy Moderator: Panelist: (Top Right) Dr Mike Hahn Biodata: Dr. Hahn is a Gastroenterologist at Lion s Gate Hospital and head of the endoscopy unit. Panelist: (Bottom Right) Dr Jin Kee Ho Biodata: Dr. Ho is a Gastroenterologist at Lion s Gate Hospital and also Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at UBC. He completed his medical education at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1999 and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2002. He attained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 2005 (Internal Medicine) and in Gastroenterology the following year. Dr. Ho began his Gastroenterology training in Dublin but completed most of his Fellowship training at UBC including a one year Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at VGH. His professional interests include the education of medical students, Residents, Fellows and nurses. He is Co-Chair of the Gastrointestinal Block for second year UBC Medical Students and is a member of the UBC Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Committee.
