INTRODUCTION Myddelton College offers generous financial support to new and existing pupils in terms of Bursaries and Scholarships. We recognise that, for some families, schooling fees are a significant financial commitment. We therefore offer a range of different Bursaries and Scholarships as it is our intention that Myddelton College is accessible to all able, gifted and talented individuals. Myddelton College boasts eight different types of Scholarships and two different Bursary funds to support families and make Myddelton College accessible to all. ASSESSMENT EXAM All students sit an entrance assessment; these assessments last about 1 hour and are strictly administered so that all students get the same instructions, explanations and examples, ensuring fair, high quality & reliable data. The assessments are intended to measure aptitude for learning and potential rather than achievement. As part of the Scholarship and Bursary application, ALL students will need to provide the following evidence: A personal statement (around 300 words) about their work and interests in relation to the category of Scholarship to which they have applied. A portfolio containing evidence of their achievements. In addition to this, those applying for an Academic Scholarship also need to provide: Evidence of any prizes and certificates gained, as well as sample pieces of outstanding work with references from their teacher(s). Those applying for a talent-based Scholarship also need to provide: A portfolio of achievements including examination results, examples of outstanding work, and, depending on which Scholarship is being applied for; recordings, match reports, references from a specialist club or coach, evidence of any county level sporting success. Those applying for our Unique Scholarships also need to provide: Evidence of any prizes and certificates gained, sample pieces of outstanding work, teacher references as proof of academic achievement, as well as evidence of achievements that relate to the specific talent on which they have been chosen to be judged. Please Note - any Scholarship or Bursary application submitted without the sufficient supporting evidence will be rejected. 2

SCHOLARSHIPS Myddelton College offers several Scholarships for its pupils. Our Scholarships are designed to reward and signify excellence and to celebrate exceptional talent. Each Scholarship is an honorary award, and in recognition of this achievement, the pupil is offered a reduction in their fees throughout their time at Myddelton College. Scholarships will only be offered to pupils who have a satisfactory level of academic ability which will be determined through a series of assessments to measure the potential of each individual. However, we do not award Scholarships on the strength of the entrance assessments alone; we therefore also ask for a personal statement and supporting evidence, which may lead to an interview. DENBIGH SCHOLARSHIP There are two Denbigh Scholarships available, the Scholarship is awarded to pupils who are based and live within the town boundaries of Denbigh. Working closely with Denbigh Town Council, Myddelton College offers two fully funded places (100% remission) to able, gifted and talented individuals, who are able to demonstrate that they are currently an ambassador for Denbigh town and therefore for Myddelton College. This is our way of giving back to the community of Denbigh, a reward for the dedication the individual has given to others. THE HUGH MYDDELTON SCHOLARSHIP The Hugh Myddelton Scholarship is a prestigious Scholarship that is awarded to an able, gifted and talented individual. This Scholarship is awarded to individuals who can demonstrate a high academic ability, consistent contribution to their local community and potential to contribute to Myddelton College. The Scholarship can cover up to 50% of the College's day fees. 3

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Academic Scholarships are awarded to pupils who demonstrate academic excellence in the initial series of assessments. This Scholarship is held for the duration of the pupil's time at Myddelton College. MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP The Music Scholarship is awarded to pupils who demonstrate an exceptional ability in either singing or playing a musical instrument. Pupils must be at least at Grade 5 with their chosen instrument in order to apply. The Scholarship is awarded to pupils who are committed to further developing their musical talent in the future, as well as those willing to dedicate time towards the musical aspect of the College, throughout their years at Myddelton College. The Scholarship also provides 2 free music lessons per week. Pupils who are looking to apply for a Music Scholarship should be prepared to play a set piece on their chosen instrument. 4

ART SCHOLARSHIP Art Scholarships are awarded to talented young artists, who have a passion for their subject, and are committed to developing their talent throughout the duration of their time at Myddelton College, and in the future. This Scholarship is awarded to pupils who can demonstrate their outstanding ability in art, particularly through creativity, imagination, manipulative skills and strong powers of observation. Pupils looking to apply for an Art Scholarship should be prepared to produce a portfolio with 8 pieces of work to demonstrate their artistic talents. DRAMA SCHOLARSHIP The Drama Scholarship is awarded to pupils who have a passion for drama and have an impressive practical capacity. The Scholarship is awarded to pupils who are committed to further developing their dramatic talent during their time in Myddelton College and in the future. Pupils looking to apply for a Drama Scholarship should be prepared to perform an extract from a play of their choice for no longer than five minutes, as well as perform a set reading to be given at the assessment to show fluency, clarity, and modulation. 5

SPORT SCHOLARSHIP Myddelton College are keen to provide young, aspiring athletes with a high-quality education. We therefore offer Sports Scholarships to pupils who demonstrate outstanding talent, potential, determination and enthusiasm in a sport. The Scholarship is awarded to pupils who are committed to further developing their sporting talent in the future, as well as those willing to dedicate time towards the sporting aspect of the College, throughout their years at Myddelton College. Pupils looking to apply for a Sports Scholarship should be prepared to bring a testimonial from their sports club coach, and should also be prepared to liaise with the Admissions team to organise a time and date when pupils can be observed demonstrating their sporting ability. I.C.T. SCHOLARSHIP The I.C.T. Scholarship is designed to award pupils who are highly skilled and proficient with information technology, have a strong understanding of I.C.T. systems and can demonstrate their competency. Pupils who apply for an I.C.T. Scholarship should be prepared to demonstrate their abilities in a computer-based test. 6

BURSARIES Myddelton College is committed to broadening access by offering to eligible parents and guardians means-tested financial support for the payment of College fees. It is our intention that Myddelton College is accessible to all able, gifted and talented individuals. If you would like to apply for a bursary, please notify us as early in the process as possible. KEY WORKERS' BURSARY As Myddelton College is driven toward accessibility for all able, gifted and talented individuals, we therefore offer ten bursaries with up to 50% remission off our day fees. These bursaries will be available for children whose parents or guardians are key workers living in the local area. The College defines a 'key worker' as someone who is employed by the public sector, in a front-line role delivering an essential public service. Examples of such roles include: clinical NHS staff (other than doctors and dentists), teachers (in schools, further education and sixth form colleges), police officers, community support officers, prison officers, probation service staff, fire fighters, ambulance service crew and members of the armed forces. MYDDELTON BURSARY Here at Myddelton College, we are committed to broadening access to the College by offering to eligible parents/guardians, means-tested financial support towards the payment of the fees. Our Myddelton Bursaries are awards made on a combination of both the child's academic merit and the family's financial need. In applying for a bursary, parents must complete a statement of financial circumstances which is available from the College on request. 57
