District 16 Section 81 Nebraska Chapter April 2014 A Note from Your Section Chairman: April 24th Acieta TOUR Fellow Members, Yes it is that time! We have another exciting tour lined up for you. If you are interested in Robotics you will not want to miss this tour. It is going to be at Ellison Technologies in Council Bluffs Iowa. Last month we toured CLAAS in LaVista were they assemble their very large combines. It was quite impressive to say the least. I would like to thank all that were able to make that tour. Coming up in May is the annual AWS Golf Outing to help support our efforts in welding education and to promote welding in our area. So come out and join us this year again it will be on a Friday morning. Get your team together and join us. Lastly this month as for the last few years April is being known as National Welding Month. We have asked the Governor s office to have a Proclamation signed declaring this National Welding Month in Nebraska. One more thing don t forget to come to the Century Link Center to see all the talented students competing at the Nebraska State Skill USA Competition April 17 th. There will be 70 different competitions going on. Come out and check it out it quite to competition. Please join us in Fremont April 26 at 9:30 am at milepost 427 on highway 30 to help beautify our Nebraska highways. This is time for you to give back to our State. The event was held at Valmont Industries in Valley, NE. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Valmont for the great support! o We also want to congratulate all those who successfully passed the exam. o With the event being so successful, Omaha will host next year s seminar and exam. Meritorious - This award is given in recognition of the candidate's counsel, loyalty and devotion to the affairs of the Society, assistance in promoting cordial relations with industry and other organizations, and for the contribution of time and effort on behalf of the Society.

CWI of the year - This award, administered by the Certification Committee, is given annually by the American Welding Society as a means of recognizing individuals participating in the Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) and Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) program whose inspection, American Welding Society, professional activity and civic activities are considered to have enhanced public awareness and opinion of both the Society and the CWI program or otherwise have made an outstanding contribution to the science of welding inspection. Educator of the year (public) - The Howard E. Adkins Instructor Membership Award is sponsored by Mrs. Wilma Adkins and family, and is given as a means of recognizing high school, trade school, technical institute or junior college instructors whose teaching activities are considered to have advanced the knowledge of welding to students in their respective schools. Educator of the year (private) - This award was established by the AWS Board of Directors as a means of honoring educators in the welding community teaching in private facilities. These individuals, in the opinion of the AWS Awards Committee, have advanced the knowledge of welding to their students through apprenticeship programs, internal corporate training programs, and similar nonpublic educational activities. o The Nebraska Section is looking for entrepreneurial volunteers that are willing to put in some of their time and efforts for a rewarding organization.
