The group will present a poster at SPN in April, 2013 and have written a manuscript which has been submitted to the Journal of Pediatric Nursing 2013-current Behaviors in the Perioperative Setting that Influence Team Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Job Satisfaction: A Perioperative Team s Perspective research project with nurses from the SDS/PACU at Children s Mercy South. They have reviewed the literature, submitted an internal grant application, and completed an IRB submission, interviews complete, analysis in process, writing a manuscript. Methodology chosen: focus group interviews. Abstract accepted for podium and poster presentation to 34 th ASPAN National Conference in San Antonio, Texas in April, 2015. 2013-current Enteral Feeding Set Handling Techniques: A Comparison of Bacterial Growth, Nursing Time and Labor Costs research project with dieticians and nurses at CMH Nutrition Support team. They have reviewed the literature and written the proposal. Methodology chosen: Simulated comparison of methods of storing enteral feeding equipment between feedings with a time/motion study of the nursing procedures for each strategy. Status: funding awarded, submitted to CMH IRB. 2013-current Health Care Providers Perceptions of Caring for Children Hospitalized with an Eating Disorder Consultative Service research project with social workers, nurses, and hospitalists at CMH South. They have reviewed the literature, submitted an internal grant application, and completed an IRB submission, collected data, completed analysis, 4

writing abstract to submit to APNA for October presentation. Methodology: Interviews with nurses, care assistants, and hospitalists. 2013 Emergency Department research study regarding strategies to increase family satisfaction with wait times for non-critical patients in the ED employing white boards for communication and walking rounds. They have reviewed the literature and begun an IRB submission. Methodology: satisfaction surveys from families and staff nurses, nurses utilization of white boards. Status: on hold due to internal changes. 2015 Recruiting research group among nurses on two CMH units, one former student & PICU nurse, and 1 physician to commence study on sleep for families and children at CMH. (2013) 2010 Volunteer in the Helen Gragg clinic at Operation Breakthrough (1-2x/month) 2009 present: Volunteer at Heartland Community Church providing care of children with special health care needs (1-2x/month) 2011 present: Regional Affiliate Regulatory Committee member of The Frontier s Clinical and Translational Science Award through Kansas University Medical Center 2011 Served as mentor/preceptor for Nurse Educator student teacher spring semester. 2013 Served as mentor/preceptor for Nurse Educator student teacher spring semester. 2014 Served as mentor/preceptor for Nurse Educator student teacher spring semester. 2005 current: Have written many letters of recommendations for students for employment and graduate school (approximately 40/year) 2011 2014: Serve as faculty advisor to the Student Nurses Association. Instrumental in getting the students involved on a state and national level (MOSNA & NSNA) 2012/2013 Faculty advisor for 1 st BSN Honor Thesis at UMKC. Have led Sara Crawford from idea to literature review, consultation with expert nurse, IRB proposal and acceptance at CMH, and data collection, analysis, and manuscript. She presented a poster at UMKC Research Day and wrote a manuscript for her thesis course and for publication to the Pediatric Nursing Journal (not accepted).. 6
