Perhaps the most exciting of all of the year-end activities is the process leading up to and including graduation day. The planning of these activities has already started, and the purpose of this letter is to share with you the details of these events. This is a memorable time in a senior s life, and it is equally special for the families who have supported them every step of the way. We want to make sure that you are included in the celebration! During the weeks ahead, there will be many opportunities to participate in senior activities. These activities are being planned to provide time to reflect and celebrate. We do expect seniors to take personal responsibility for their actions and adhere to school policies and procedures up to and through graduation day. Your assistance in helping your son/daughter meet timelines will be greatly appreciated. We look forward to making this a special time for seniors, staff, and families. We congratulate you, the families of the Class of 2018, and thank you for your guidance during the past several years. We continue to ask for your support and encouragement as we look toward commencement on Thursday, May 24th, at The Value City Arena/Jerome Schottenstein Center. Participation in the graduation ceremony is optional. Students who choose to participate need to observe the following: Students must wear the approved cap, gown, and tassel during the ceremony. Decorated caps and souvenir tassels are not permitted. Darby, NHS or Tolles tassels are permitted, but only one tassel may be worn. Students must wear the following clothing under the gown: Men: dress shirt and tie, dress slacks, dress shoes and socks Women: light-colored dress or pants and dress top or blouse and dress shoes (no flip-flops) Students will report with their caps, gowns, and tassels to The Schottenstein Center no later than 6:15 p.m. for attendance. Each senior is responsible for his/her own keys and personal items. We will not be able to store them during the ceremony. National Honor Society Members will wear National Honor tassels during the graduation ceremony. These will be distributed at the graduation practice. Seniors who have earned the Honors Diploma will be given honors cords to wear at the ceremony. These will be distributed at the spring awards ceremony. PREPARATION FOR GRADUATION GRADUATION CEREMONY VERIFICATION OF PARTICIPATION FORM Due Date: Monday, April 30, 2018 Time: By the end of the school day Location: Submit to Mrs. Ribble in the Main Office This form is located on page 2, and a response is required from each senior. SENIOR INTENTION/FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORM Date: Monday, April 30, 2018 Time: By the end of the school day Location: Submit to Mrs. Leeka in the Guidance Office This form is located on page 10. We must have a response from every senior. Without this form your final transcript will not be sent out. SENIOR ASSESSMENTS ALL Seniors are required to take State mandated exams. DEADLINE FOR OBLIGATIONS Due Date: Friday, May 18, 2018 Seniors are expected to turn in ipads, textbooks, pay all fines, clean out lockers and take care of any unfinished business by the conclusion of this day. All obligations must be cleared in order for a senior to receive his/her diploma. SENIOR FAILURES Prior to graduation our counselors will contact the parents of any senior who has failed to complete required coursework and will not graduate. Beginning on May 29, 2018, parents and students can make appointments with a counselor to discuss future plans for graduation. 3

SENIOR ACTIVITIES JUNIOR/SENIOR PROM Date: Saturday, April 14, 2018 Theme: Red Carpet Romance Time: 8:00 pm 11:00 pm Location: The Columbus Athenaeum Recommended Dress: Formal Ticket Cost: $40 per person *Students planning to attend with a non-darby guest are no longer required to complete a guest form; however, all rules and requirements must be agreed upon at the time of ticket purchase. Parking instructions will be posted on the bottom of the ticket. AFTER PROM Time: 11:30 pm 2:30 am Location: Dave & Busters Ticket Cost: $22 (advance ticket sale); $25 (at the door) The after prom at Dave & Buster s is being sponsored by the PTO. It includes unlimited gaming, appetizers, sodas, and other activities. PLEASE NOTE: Tickets for prom and after prom may be purchased online at LocalLevelEvents.com (search: Darby Prom) beginning April 2, 2018 SENIOR BREAKFAST AND TALENT SHOW Date: Friday, May 18, 2018 Time: 8:30 a.m. Location: Hilliard Darby Commons and Performing Arts Center Tickets: $3 per student The Class of 2018 will hold their annual Senior Breakfast and Talent Show beginning with a catered pancake breakfast in the commons. If you plan to eat, you should arrive at 8:30 a.m. so you don t miss out on the delicious pancakes! Following breakfast, everyone will move to the Performing Arts Center for a special program. Seniors are asked to wear something to symbolize their future plans such as college, technical program, military, job, etc. PLEASE NOTE: Tickets may be purchased online at www.locallevelevents.com. Tickets will also be sold during all lunch periods in the commons beginning on Monday, May 14th and ending on the morning of the breakfast. 4

Invitations will be sent to qualified students and their parents. LEGACY BREAKFAST Date: Wednesday, May 2, 2018 Time: 7:10 a.m. Location: Main Gym Purpose: To celebr ate students who have been nominated by a teacher for demonstrating R Factor qualities throughout the year. Invitations will be sent to nominated students. This is an informal celebration for staff and students only. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS Date: Friday, May 11, 2018 Time: 8:30 a.m. Location: Performing Arts Center Recommended Dress: Dress-up Purpose: To honor those Seniors who have received a local scholarship. TOLLES CERTIFICATION CEREMONY Date: Tuesday, May 22, 2018 Time: 7:00 p.m. Location: Tolles Career & Technical Center 5

Date: Tuesday, April 10th Time: 10:00 a.m. after the class photo Location: Main Gym GRADUATION CAP AND GOWN PICKUP GRADUATION PRACTICE Date: Wednesday, May 23rd Time: 10:00 a.m. Location: Hilliard Darby High School Main Gym & Field House This practice is MANDATORY for students who plan to participate in the graduation ceremony, and we will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. *The PTO will host a senior luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. outside the field house doors. GRADUATION DAY Date: Thursday, May 24, 2018 Time: 6:15 p.m. (Seniors will report to the Schottenstein Center) Time: 7:00 p.m. (Ceremony begins) Location: The Value City Arena/Jerome Schottenstein Center Dress Requirements: See guidelines below Any unpaid balance will be due to Jostens at the time of pickup. NO tickets are required. There is unlimited seating for families and guests. Discounted parking passes will be available on a first come basis beginning in May. Watch the announcements/twitter or more information. We encourage every graduate to participate in this special ceremony. Although participation in the commencement ceremony is optional, we encourage all members of the Class of 2018 to join us on this, their special day! GRADUATION GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS AND GUESTS ARRIVAL, PARKING, AND SEATING FOR THE GRADUATION CEREMONY There is no limit to the number of family members and/or guests graduates may invite to the ceremony. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for all guests; and there will be ushers to provide assistance if necessary. The doors to the Jerome Schottenstein Center will open at 6:15 p.m., and the ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will be an interpreter located in Section 106D for those family members and/or guests who are hearing impaired. Please notify Brenda Ribble in the Main Office if you are in need of the interpreter. Mrs. Ribble can be reached at 921-7312 Monday Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Handicapped seating is also available. A seating map will be posted on our website when available. If you need additional information, please contact The Ohio State University/Jerome Schottenstein Center directly. Pre-sale parking tickets will be available for $3 in the Main Office in May. They are available on a first come basis until all pre-sale tickets have been sold. The cost to park at the Jerome Schottenstein Center the day of graduation will be $5. Students will not have to pay to park and will receive one parking pass in their graduation practice packet. SECURITY PROCEDURES AND PROHIBITED ITEMS Large bags and backpacks are not permitted. To present a safe event for everyone, jackets and bags may be searched upon entry. If prohibited items are found, the item will be confiscated OR the guest may return it to their vehicle. The Schottenstein Center does not safeguard personal belongings. In addition to building search procedures and recognition of prohibited items, guests may be asked to comply with security requirements, i.e. removal of hats, emptying of metal from pockets and entry through metal detectors. The Schottenstein Center has the sole right to determine the type of pre-event screening. Refusal of search procedures may result in being denied entry into the venue. Frequently Asked Questions About Walk-Through Metal Detectors What items do I need to remove from my pockets or clothing before walking through the metal detectors? Phones, mobile devices, headwear, keys and any other large metal items must be removed. Do I have to remove my shoes and other metal including belts, jewelry, hair clips? Unlike at an airport, guests do NOT need to remove shoes, belts, small jewelry, hair clips, wallets or small amounts of loose change. What if an alarm sounds? If an alarm is triggered, a secondary search will be conducted by a certified security staff member. If I use a wheelchair, scooter or walker, do I still pass through the metal detectors? As long as the chair, scooter or walker fits through the machines. If the mobility device does not fit guests may request a wand screening. If I have an artificial hip/knee or a pacemaker, do I still have to pass through the metal detectors? It is safe to proceed through the machines, however, guests may request a wand screening. If I am an expectant mother, do I have to pass through the metal detectors? It is safe for expectant mothers to pass through the machines, however, guests may request a wand screening. What is the policy for children? Children are subject to screening, however, infants may be carried. Parents with small children may proceed through the machines alongside their children. 7

POST-GRADUATION INFORMATION DIPLOMAS FOR THOSE NOT ATTENDING GRADUATION Graduates who do not attend the ceremony may pick up their diplomas in the main office beginning Tuesday, May 29th. FINAL TRANSCRIPTS In most cases colleges, employers, agencies, etc., require that an official final transcript verifying graduation be sent directly from the high school. Students must have submitted the Senior Intention/Final Transcript Request to the Guidance Office for the final transcript to be sent. Please be sure to include the complete address where it is to be sent. There is no charge for this one final transcript. Additional transcripts needed by students may be requested from Mrs. Leeka in the Guidance Office. The cost is $2 for each additional transcript. GRADUATION PHOTOS Parker Photographs will be at the graduation ceremony taking photos of each student as they receive their diploma. You will be able to purchase the graduation photographs or a photo CD. NO advance ordering necessary. Photos will be ready for viewing on Saturday, May 26th at ParkerPhotographs.com. You can order all your photos online and they will be mailed to you. The photo CD s are not available online, you must call to order CD s at (614)-766-7222. The following steps will take you to the photographs: Click on Photo Galleries and Online Images icon at the bottom of the page. All images on their site will appear. Click on the Darby photo icon and all the images that were taken will pop up. Please note: There are TWO sets of images (one from each presenter at graduation). Parents Who Host, Lose the Most: Don t be a party to teenage drinking Prom and graduation are important milestones in young peoples lives and cause for celebration. The Hilliard Youth and Family Commission and Drug-free Action Alliance wants parents to know that providing alcohol to teens at prom and graduation parties can be costly for everyone involved. It is illegal, unsafe, and unhealthy for anyone under age 21 to drink alcohol. Here are the facts: A MESSAGE FROM THE HILLIARD YOUTH AND FAMILY COMMISSION Parents who give alcohol to their teen s friends under any circumstances, even in their own homes, are breaking the law. Parents who knowingly allow a person under 21 to remain in their home or on their property while consuming or possessing alcoholic beverages can be prosecuted and everything associated with such a violation can be confiscated, including personal property. Parents can be sued if they give alcohol to anyone under 21; and they in turn hurt someone, hurt themselves, or damage property. Hilliard teens deserve to live and grow to adulthood in an environment where alcohol is not misused. Hosting lively alcohol-free parties with plenty of fun activities for everyone is the best way to show our youth that we care about their future.
