Applications and information are available in the Longview High School Senior Scholarship and Counseling Center on the second floor of the main building. Please note, however, that some applications are only available online through the scholarship donor s website. Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors Scholarship The Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors will award its annual $500 scholarship to a deserving senior at Longview High School, Pine Tree High School, Spring Hill High School and Trinity School of Texas. Each application will be judged on a point system based on: College entrance or examination score Grade point average Student s curriculum Financial need Extracurricular activities Work activities The student with the highest overall score from each school will receive the scholarship. All information submitted will be held in strict confidence. Children of Texas Bank and Trust employees and members of the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors are not eligible for the scholarship. Return the application to the LHS counseling department by Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation The directors of the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation have announced the annual competition for over 200 scholarships to be awarded for professional and executive careers in the graphic communication industry. To be eligible to compete for a scholarship award, the student must be:
Interested in a career in the graphic communication industry. A High school senior or a high school graduate who has not yet started college. A college student who is enrolled in a two- or four-year college program. All scholarship students must be full-time students. Candidates are judged on the basis of their high school academic records, recommendations offered from counselors, advisors, teachers, biographical information, which includes extracurricular interests and academic honors. The winners will be announced by letter in June or July. Application deadline is March 1, 2011. 2011 Rusk County Electric Cooperative, Inc. Education Scholarship Fund The Rusk County Electric Cooperative, Inc. (RCEC) has a scholarship fund to assist its members graduating high school seniors who desire to further their education. Scholarships are awarded to students based on several criteria: demonstrated civic responsibility, scholastic achievement, and financial need. Qualifications: High school seniors and non-traditional students (those students attending private, parochial, or home school) are allowed to apply. The applicant s immediate family must be an active member of RCEC. An active member is defined as a customer of RECE electric service at their permanent residence as of January 1 of the year of the application. Dependents of RCEC directors are not eligible. Application: 1. The scholarship application must be personally completed by the applicant, and 2. Must be accompanied by the School Certification form. 3. Two letters of recommendation are to be signed by the applicant (in the box) and then completed by a teacher, principal, or counselor from the high school the applicant is attending. They cannot be from a relative. If the student is home schooled, the letters of recommendation may be signed by individuals in their community. Z Club Scholarship The Zonta Club of Longview is offering the Z Club Scholarship to all Longview High School senior girls who are members of the LHS Z Club. Deadline is Wednesday, March 9. Young Women in Public Affairs The Zonta Club of Longview and Zonta International are offering the Young Women in Public Affairs Award. Who is eligible? Women who are pre-university or pre-college students (age 16-19) living or studying in a Zonta district/region at the time of application and demonstrate evidence of the following: Active commitment to volunteerism Experience in local or student government Volunteer leadership achievements Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs Advocating in Zonta International s mission of advancing the status of women worldwide. Application requirements; Completion of the official application (may also be downloaded from www.zonta.org) Verification of current enrollment by school official Two confidential recommendations from adults not related to the applicant such as teachers, school officials or community leaders Deadline is Wednesday, March 9. LIFT Club Scholarship in Memory of Nicole Nikki Cartwright The LIFT Club of LHS is offering two $100 scholarships to students who have financial need, desire to achieve in spite of their learning difficulties, have at least a 2.5 GPA, have maintained a positive attitude through school and have at least two people to vouch for them. Deadline is Thursday, March 10.
Texas Trial Lawyers Association The Texas Trial Lawyers Association is now accepting applications for the 2011 Scholarship Program which is dedicated to assisting students who have proven the ability to do college level work yet may not be able to obtain financial aid through traditional sources. These true-need-based scholarships of $1000 each are awarded to high school seniors statewide. The scholarship criteria do not include requirements concerning race, sex or field or study. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 20, 2011 to be eligible for consideration. Federal Employees Tuition Assistance Scholarship Children of federal employees are eligible to apply for this scholarship. For more information, go to www.feea.org. Applications are accepted through March 2011. Mozelle Johnston Memorial Scholarship The scholarship amount shall be determined annually by the Scholarship Committee with the approval of the Judson Alumni Association Executive Board. An applicant must: have attended Mozelle Johnston Elementary School in the Longview Independent School District; be a member in good standing of the current graduating class of Longview High School; provide transcript and application; provide an official transcript showing SAT/ACT scores and GPA; show school and community activities and participation; provide two letters of recommendation, one from a Longview ISD faculty member and one from a non-school person; and show financial need. A check in the amount of the scholarship shall be mailed to the college/university after proof of registration and payment of tuition and fees is provided. If proof of registration is not provided to the Judson Alumni Association by the first Monday in October following the year of graduation from Longview High School, the scholarship shall be forfeited by the recipient. The deadline is Monday, March 21, 2011.
The Jay Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund The family of Jay Thompson, Longview High School Class of 2001, is offering a scholarship to LHS seniors in Jay s memorial. Jay was born blind but never received a music lesson, but he achieved much in the music world through his God given talent. Because Jay diligently applied himself to his music, his family wants to give a scholarship to a LHS senior who is planning to study music and continue a musical career. Guidelines and Restrictions: 1. The scholarship is restricted to a LHS graduating senior. The scholarship will be paid to the college selected by the recipient when the college furnishes a letter of enrollment to the Scholarship Fund. 2. A minimum GPA of C or above is required. The applicant must be a student who has been involved in the music department (this will include choir, band, orchestra, etc.) and who plans to further his music career. 3. The recipient will have to enroll in a higher institution of learning within the first calendar year after graduation. If the scholarship is not used within that year, then the funds will be added back to the Jay Thompson Scholarship Fund. Hudson PEP Elementary School PTA Scholarship Hudson PEP is pleased to announce that it will be awarding three $250.00 scholarships to seniors graduating from Longview High School this year. In order to be eligible, you must meet the following criteria: 1. Must have attended Hudson PEP Elementary School. 2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (attach transcript). 3. Must enroll in an accredited college, university, or technical school. The deadline for scholarship applications is Wednesday, March 23, 2011 and must be returned to Mrs. Ray by 1:00 p.m. on that date. The scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Senior Awards Night Program, which will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011. Robert Sullivan Memorial Scholarship for LHS Seniors Only The Robert Sullivan Memorial Scholarship is for Longview High School students only. Applicants must complete an application and write an essay about their future career plans. Transcript and one letter of recommendation must accompany the application. The deadline is Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The Horace L. Whitaker Memorial Scholarship for LHS Seniors Only The Horace L. Whitaker Memorial Scholarship recognizes young men and women who are interested in attending college or some type of vocational or technical training beyond high school. The scholarship is limited to Longview High School seniors and is memory of Mr. Horace L. Whitaker who served as a counselor at Longview High School. The scholarship is need-based and is granted only to individuals who enroll in a two or four year college or an accredited vocational/technical program. It is endowed by initial contributions made by friends and family of Mr. Whitaker. Interest from the fund is used to provide the scholarship annually. Selection of recipients is based on: Character Leadership Scholarship Need Personal Achievements Guidelines: 1. The scholarship is restricted to a Longview High School senior and payable only after the recipient shows proof of enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college or vocational/technical program. 2. A minimum GPA of C+ is required. This average is established so as not to prevent average students from participating. 3. If a recipient does not enroll in school within one calendar year of receipt of the scholarship, those funds will be reapplied to the principal sum as soon as possible. 4. All Scholarship funds are paid directly to the educational institution when proof of enrollment is shown. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The Cateche Dike Performing Arts Scholarship The Cateche Dike Performing Arts Scholarship was established in memory of Cateche Dike who would have graduated from LHS in May 2006. The scholarship in her memory
was created to help a student who has a love and passion for performing and singing like Cateche did. Scholarship Requirements Student must be graduating from Longview High School the same year as applying for this scholarship. Must have at least a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA). Please attach current high school transcript. Must submit two letters of recommendation from two of your current teachers. An essay of 500 to 600 words telling the scholarship selection committee why you should be selected for the $1,500.00 Cateche Dike Performing Art Scholarship. This essay should include the names of colleges or universities you have applied to for admission or college or university acceptances you have received. Please include your career plans and how this money will help you with your education. All essays must be submitted by Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Eligibility Criteria 1. Must have attended Judson Middle School in the Longview Independent School District for two full years. 2. Must be a member in good standing of the current graduating class of Longview High School. 3. Must provide transcript, two teacher recommendations from LHS teachers, and application by noon, Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Disbursement A check in the amount of the scholarship shall be mailed to the recipient after proof of registration and payment of college tuition and fees is provided. Longview Educational Support Staff Association (LESA) Scholarship The Longview Educational Support Staff Association (LESA) is offering a $1,000 scholarship, payable at $500 per spring and fall semesters. An applicant must: show financial need; have a 75 or above average; plan to major in college in either business or education; enroll in college for both fall and spring semesters following 2010 high school graduation; complete the application form; provide a copy of your transcript; and provide letters of recommendation from two teachers. Deadline is Monday, March 28, 2011. The Bramlette Elementary School PTA Scholarship Bramlette Elementary School PTA will offer two $250 scholarships to LHS seniors who attended first through fifth grades at Bramlette Elementary School. Students must complete an application and provide a transcript and one letter of recommendation.

The Attorney Felicia Shankle-Rogers Memorial Scholarship The Attorney Felecia Shankle-Rogers Memorial Scholarship is restricted to a Longview High School senior and payable only after the recipient shows proof of enrollment in a two or four year university. Selection of recipients is based on character, leadership, honesty, goals, personal achievement, and a short essay on the applicant s career goals. A minimum GPA of C+ is required. All scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution when proof of enrollment is shown. Deadline is Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Longview Chamber of Commerce 2011 Scholarship Fourteen individual $1,000 scholarships will be awarded with at least one scholarship being awarded to each of the following: a student who will attend a school that is a member of the Longview Chamber of Commerce and a student who will attend a technical or vocational school. Four of the scholarships will be awarded to students attending Kilgore College and Texas State Technical College. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic ability, merit and need. Applicant s parent or legal guardian s place of employment or the student s place of employment must be a current member of the Longview Chamber of Commerce. Finalists will be notified and interviewed by the scholarship by the scholarship selection committee. Deadline is Thursday, March 31.
East Texas Professional Credit Union McLauchlin Scholarship for Students Earning a Degree in the Field of Education To be considered for one of the $2,000 McLauchlin Scholarships, an applicant must adhere to the following guidelines: Be a graduating senior at a public high school within East Texas Professional Credit Union s field of membership. A resident of Gregg County qualifies. The applicant, or an immediate family member, must have an East Texas Professional Credit Union account in good standing. An immediate family member is defined as a parent, grandparent, brother or sister. The applicant must work towards a degree in the field of education. Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship The Slough Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships of up to $5,000 per year ($2,500 per semester, fall and spring only) for a total of five years or the completion of a Bachelor s Degree or a total accumulation of 136 semester hours or 36 credits, whichever comes first. Smaller amounts may be awarded on a one-time basis with no guarantee of future awards. Applicants must be: Must be a Texas resident and U.S. citizen at the time of the application Only complete applications will be accepted (complete means all items filled in and all documents attached) Must demonstrate need through the FAFSA and required essay Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 Must enroll as a full-time student for the term of scholarship eligibility (12 semester hours or more each term) May not have accumulated more than a total of 136 college credit hours or 36 credits Applications are now available in the LHS downstairs counseling office.
