Swallow was the first professor and dean of the college. With increased funding by the state and the appointment of Frederick B. Mumford as dean in 1909, the college grew. Mumford convinced university administrators that more space was needed. As a result, several new buildings were constructed, including the veterinary building (1911), Schweitzer Hall (1912), the hog cholera serum plant (1915), Gwynn Hall (1920), Mumford Hall (1925), and Eckles Hall (1938). Many of these buildings are still used. Arrangement: The collection has been arranged into the following three series: Scope and Content Note: The papers include correspondence with farmers concerning crops, animals, and experiments being performed by the college. In addition, there is correspondence with businessmen; with former, present, and prospective students; with other agricultural schools and experiment stations; with President Jesse and college faculty. Also concerns formation of new departments within the college and employing faculty for those departments. The papers are arranged chronologically. The visual materials include one photo album containing photographs of College of Agriculture buildings, students performing classwork, and events such as the Student Farmers Annual Fair. The lantern slides include images of students and student events, university buildings, statistics on food production and consumption related to World War I, World War I propaganda, advertisement slides, and images of livestock.
