1 - General information Topic Call Identifier Type of Action Deadline Id ICT-35-2016 H2020-ICT-2016-2017 RIA H2020-ICT-2016-1 Acronym RESPECT Proposal title* Responsible technologies for mutually supportive communities Note that for technical reasons, the following characters are not accepted in the Proposal Title and will be removed: < > " & Duration in months 36 Fixed keyword 1 Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) Add Abstract Free keywords mutually supportive communities, values, norms, knowledge, evolution RESPECT s vision is to design complex socio-technical systems so that technology is aligned with the emerging values of users, and users control the way the technologies they use are deployed. RESPECT will realise this vision through a close knit collaboration between the social sciences and humanities, and information and communication technologies. Specifically, RESPECT will conduct conceptual and empirical investigations into the inter-related norms and values of mutually supportive communities. These investigations will inform methodological guidelines for building socio-technical systems that adhere to these norms and values. The guidelines will be applied to the development of a technological platform for building applications that enable community coordination of activities. RESPECT will then build and evaluate a smart-phone application for coordination of care activities that are inherently sensitive to socially complex considerations of values. However, community norms and values are not static entities, but evolve in response to changing contexts and needs. Hence, conceptual and empirical investigations into how users evolve their norms and values will inform RESPECT s development of innovative AI technologies enabling application users to collaboratively negotiate changes to their norms and values. Once agreements are reached, these changes will then automatically update the design and use of their applications. RESPECT consists of a well-balanced consortium of researchers that are world-leading in their respective disciplines, and an established community of users currently testing a pilot application. We are thus confident that we will successfully address existing and new R&D challenges, and so realise the RESPECT vision and illustrate the impact of responsible research and innovation on academics, software developers, third sector users and policy-makers. 5 - Call specific questions Open Research Data Pilot in Horizon 2020 If selected, all applicants will participate in the Pilot on Open Research Data in Horizon 2020 1, which aims to improve and maximise access to and re-use of research data generated by actions. Participating in the Pilot does not necessarily mean opening up all research data. Actions participating in the Pilot will be invited to formulate a Data Management Plan in which they will determine and explain which of the research data they generate will be made open. Applicants have the possibility to opt out of this Pilot and must indicate a reason for this choice. Participation in this Pilot does not constitute part of the evaluation process. Proposals will not be evaluated favourably because they are part of the Pilot and will not be penalised for opting out of the Pilot.
