What was the purpose of this series of meetings? OPSB held four (4) meetings across New Orleans to: share the Superintendent s Guiding Principles for school unification receive feedback about what the community s reactions are to the design of a public school system unified under the governance of OPSB
Key Questions Mothers, fathers, grandparents, students, teachers, social workers, clergy and more came together to give feedback related to the Guiding Principles by answering these two questions: What is needed to build a unified school system that is responsive to this community around each Guiding Principle? What would these principles look like in our unified school system?
Sharing Common Ideas Everyone shared ideas within their groups. Then each group of community members decided what themes they wanted to present to the larger audience.

Identifying Themes After the four meetings were complete, the team of professional facilitators reviewed all comments and identified fifteen (15) trending topics. Comments were coded and categorized according to these identified themes.

Themes Explained Accountability: standards by which schools are evaluated for approvals, renewals, interventions, and/or closures Collaboration:sharing of best practices, mistakes, resources, and information Funding: financial resources provided for students Holistic Education: emphasizing arts, physical education, etc. Local Trained Educators Curriculum and Classroom Standards: instruction provided in classrooms Mental Health: counseling, diagnosing, onsite care, etc. Career and Technical Education: preparing students for careers and college Open Community Schools: hours of operation, neighborhood oriented, programs for community, etc. Discipline and Culture: practices used at schools to ensure a safe and happy learning environment SPED & ELL: legal and other obligations to serve students with identified needs Enrollment: means by which students are able to enroll in school Translation Services Facilities Teacher Training: professional development and recruitment of teachers providing instruction and supports to children
